I have recently begun correspondence with a Russian woman from Krasnodar. This is my first time in discussions with a woman from Russia, and I have quickly become close with her. I am impressed with her letters very much. We have been corresponding for only a couple of weeks, but I already am considering a trip to visit her. I am from the US, and I have never been to Russia. I am curious as to others opinions as to how to approach this situation. Is this moving to quickly? Is it safe to visit Russia, especially if I go alone? And any other advice that people are willing to offer. Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.

It is safe to visit Russia.
I admit that when I first went there I had a flight problem and could not find anyone to help me ( language problems )
I thought : What am i doing here. Am I crazy?
But after the airport ordeal everything was great.
I love going here now and recommend going.
What ever you have heard about Russia from your friends is probably not true.
I do think it is way to early to plan a trip to visit this woman.
But still you could get some things ready for the future such as a passport if you dont have one already.
Get it now even if you dont go to Russia , plan ahead.

I traveled to Moscow and Volgograd alone with no problems.
The taxi guys rape you because your American but just pay them as it is easier for you unless your woman meets you at the airport.Always let her negotiate the prices with taxis unless you speak good Russian.
Hope this helps some.
When I traveled to Russia I did not know of any types of Russian forums like this one. They could of helped a lot if i knew about them.
Theres good info here, just read some old threads and they will help you understand what you may possibly experience in your future. There can be a lot of headaches in this type of relationship but the rewards can be great too !!!

I'm sure that if mdeutsch2k reads this forum a bit and asks a couple of questions it won't be any problem for him to visit Russia all on his own. Of course if you just go with no info backing you you might get in a helluva situation like my man Searcher did - he just left his luggage in Moscow and arrived in Omsk with one shirt and one pair of socks and only got to see his suitcase on his last day in Siberia))))))))))))

Anyway if you fail with your relationships with that RW you shouldnt feel lost or something. Just visit a nightclub down town, drink a 50 gram of vodka and dance with a girl (any girl). And you better believe that the ugliest girl in a Russian nightclub can be compared to the nicest ones in your town))))))) Plus at least every tenth of them speaks English.

Russia was fine, wish I could go back but we're meeting some place else this time.

My problems began with my visa be sure that the agency that does you visa (or if you do it) makes the first day the day you arrive on Russian soil.

My problems began with a visa problem. I was delayed. When I was at passport control in Sheremetevo-2 I saw my luggage on the other side of a glass wall/barrier. After I was allowed to go (about 4-1/2 hours later) my luggage was gone.

I wasn't certain what happened and there was a bit of confusion on my part because:

1) I looked for it but couldn't find it, the few people who were there didn't speak English (but later I found many other people, in other parts of the airport, who did speak English) so, I didn't know what they did with it.

2) British Airways insisted that my luggage would be fowarded all of the way to Omsk NOT SO!!!!

... and I asked Fowarded or checked before I left the U.S. and they said fowarded.

So..... when I got to Omsk.... no luggage!

but at least the trip was nice and so was Nelly

Thank you for the responses. When I asked her about going to Krasnodar she said that it would be too dangerous due to terrorist kidnappings, murders, etc. Supposedly because of the proximity to Chechnya. I am starting to think this may be scam. I then recommended meeting in Moscow, and she did respond to that question, but she did visit a travel agency and wouldlike to meet in either france or the US. I know that it is impossible for her to come to the US, but she says she can. I do not know what to think now.. I have posted another thread under the scammers forum. I am curious if anyone has visited Krasnodar, and if it really is that dangerous. I do not think I am being overly paranoid, and I want wish that it is not a scam. It just doesn't seem right to me.

Thank you,

Michael-

It is a scam. Sorry.

If you want to go near the Cauasus area you always have to keep in mind that Chechens sometimes do kidnap people and take them hostage to their mountain strongholds. You don't even want me to tell you how they treat such people, since I don't want to give you nightmares.
