I agree with you... the information that's shared on this Forum is the best I've seen on the web. I really enjoy reading everyone's views. And I'll even admit that I've changed some of my own views from reading other people's posts. It's always nice to get a balanced set of views (kind of the pro/con approach to analyzing a situation!)
As for proceeding... I'm not really sure myself. I kind-of dove in the first time, but now I'm proceeding a little more slowly. I think it's easy to get excited and start rambling, but it's tough to ask the hard questions and to really get to know a person.
If it's possible, I'd even recommend getting to know people on this forum. If they get a good feel for you as a person and they happen to know anyone that's single, that may be a great "introduction" in itself!

Hi Ted...
Welcome to our forum... I look forward to reading your thoughts, questions and ideas...
Feel free to post any question (in the form of a new thread) in this singles section (as well as in other sections that fit your question), and I (and others) will try to answer your questions the best that we can...
One thing that we strived for in creating this forum is to present as honest a perspective on Russian-Western relationships, and pursuing a relationship with a Russian partner, as possible.
You asked about the best way to pursue a relationship with a Russian woman....
I am going to create a new thread so that we can focus on that issue (and I will post some of my thoughts there, ok?)...
There are things I want to write about this, but... I want to wait to post them in a seperate thread...
Welcome to the forum and Russian Meeting Place website... I look forward to reading your thoughts, questions and ideas....

Hello there, everyone. ^.^ IRL, I'm Richie, but since I'm obsessed with wolves, I prefer Arctic Wolf or something like that. I've been trying for some time, now, to find somebody... ANYBODY who lives in Russia who can talk with me on Yahoo Messenger, but nobody from there ever replies. My old email pen-pal, Lika, also hasn't written in YEARS! Heh... Is there some kind of new laws or something, preventing these people from contacting me?

PS: I'm teaching myself Russian, but I live in the middle of nowhere... just how effective is "Instant Immersion Russian"?

Hey Ritchie...er, I mean, "Arctic Wolf"
I think the reason that people don't engage you in Yahoo Messenger chats from Russia is this:
1) Most people don't have their own computer. They don't want to waste the internet time they've paid for by installing AOL Instant Messenger or Yahoo Messenger
2) Internet Cafe's charge $1-2 per hour. That doesn't sound like much to us, but to someone who earns $50 a month, that's a bunch of groceries. So they must be judicious in their use of their internet time.
I think that if you were to form a relationship with someone and have met her, then you would have a greater likelihood of maintianing a dialog by some sort of chat program... but you may have to subsidize part of it.

Umm... *blink blink* Oh... I guess I never thought that deeply into it before. Kinda makes contacting the outside world a bit of a problem, then, doesn't it? Seeing as how I live in the States, the possibilities for my ever actually meeting anyone from over there are slim 'til I've gotten a "real" job. Thanks, though. It's better, now that I know. Are there any Russian members who post here? ^.~

I just got an email saying someone called "Vyesna" replied to my post, yet I can't see any reply by such a person, here. Whoever you are, I hope your reply shows up soon so I can see whatever it was you had to say. *sighs* Maybe this post will make it show.

Hi Arctic Wolf...
There are some Russian women here in this forum, but they don't write very often... I think that many Russian women who don't speak fluent English are shy about writing in English in forums.
I think that Bob is correct that most Russian women in Russia cannot afford a computer or internet access, and so it is difficult to meet them through chatting.
But, you can try Yahoo Chat.... there are SOME Russian women there, but... many of them live in America.
I think that also ICQ has some Russian chat rooms.
By using some kind of Russian personals instead of a chat, you get to know a lot more about a person before contacting them, and so you are able to select someone to communicate with based upon interests and characteristics that are similar to yours.
When you are in a chat room, you know much less about who a person is on the other end of a computer. It could be anyone.
This is also possible through personals, but... if you are looking through personals from a website that you trust, you simply have a much better chance of knowing who you are communicating with.
Good luck with your search, and welcome to the Russian Meeting Place forums.

Arctic,
Vynesna, is a member here (she is also spoken for ) check your private messages, possibly it's there.
I actually met Liliya through ICQ. I've never used Yahoo but what I like about ICQ is that you can set search parameters to increase the chance of finding what you're specificly looking for.
For example you could set it to search for /female/26-29 yrs old/speaks english-russian/Saint Petersburg area/interests are music-running/online only/ and it will give you a list of all women online right now that match that criteria.
Yor statement about getting "a real-job" is a little cause for concern if you are looking for more than a pen-pal. Costs vary but a good benchmark is that if you are serious about finding a life long partner, you should be prepared to dump $10,000 of disposable income into your search. It may cost less, but it may cost much more - there are no garantees. You might also want to consider looking in eastern russia as it is much closer to you than Moscow or Kiev (just examples) In any event, the eventual trip to meet her in person for a week or two will not run you less than $2000.
It's not all about money, but you should keep this in the back of your mind before you fill a woman's heart full of dreams that will never come true.............

Well... first off, I'm not such a fast-mover that I'm looking for an instant lifemate, though I always like to keep that option openned. I did have an email pen-pal in Moscow named Alika, and she was really nice, then one day (a year or two ago) she stopped responding to my emails. If nothing more, I just want to learn about the every-day life of someone in my age bracket who's a Russian native. It would also be nice to have someone close online who could occassionally help me practice my Russian (through text, of course). Yahoo has a similar searching tool when seeking "Friends", but there are few if any listed Russians who are as into wolves or even animals as I am. The Russian language is a new, but strong passion of mine. I love the sound of it, and despite the lack of refferences in my part of the world, I'm already writing a song in Russian... such as it is.
Anywho... I'm just anxious to connect somehow to that part of the world because it fascinates me. What happens next is just a sort of adventure I'll have to discover as time allows. ^.^
Off the subject: Does anyone here know of any good Russian pop, rock, or other semi-new style musical artists? All I've gotten so far is tATu and some MP3s of someone named Roza, but... I want... more? ^.~

Check out this thread in the Russian Culture forum:
Sorry I've been so quiet, lately... Been really busy. O.o
I have two small requests...
1) Is there any way I can find someone in Russia who'll be email pen-pals with me like Lika was? I'd SO like to speak with a native of Russia again.
2) How does one most commonly say "I'm sorry" in Russian? Also, which is supposed to come first in Russian, normally... the noun or its adjective? I have an IM Translator, but it's not without mistakes... unfortunately.
I'll have more to talk about when I'm not runnin' on mental fumes. :-P
