A couple weeks ago, I received a response to my Yahoo personals ad. It was from a young woman living in Russia. She gave an email address to write to so I thought what the heck, I like meeting interesting people. Besides, I love that eastern Euro accent I wrote back and received a nice email with a few pics attached. She wasn't drop dead gorgeous so I figured this might be the real thing happening here. After a few emails (almost everyday) she did seem to get attached to me rather quickly (but who would blame her? ). This is where I pat myself on the back...I have many interests and often do deep research on whatever subject is at hand. Lucky for me, this site came up on a search so I thought I'd give it a read. I learned there were many scams and what the warning signs were. At that time, I hadn't noticed any red flags regarding my conversations with "Nadezhda". I did notice she wouldn't answer all my questions in the next email but might address one or two. She said she lived in a very small town where only a couple people had phones and Internet access, but there was an "Internet Club" she went to. Since she had to pay for access her time was limited. I thought this sounded quite reasonable. She also said she printed my emails and read them at home with the help of a dictionary. This, to me "explained" perhaps why she failed to answer all my questions promptly. Things were going well and she hadn't mentioned money or visas or traveling to US but I was concerned about how fast things were moving along. I wanted to know what a reasonable timeline would be and how patient I could expect her to be so I came back to this forum and read more. I saw mention of a Blacklist and thought, I'd better have a look just in case. To my relief, I did not see her name or picture in the list (but DID see someone else I had talked to briefly!) , and since I was there I thought I'd read some typical letters from known scammers just so I'd be better able to recognise a scam as it unfolded. The third letter I read started out rather familiar. Then as I read, I realised it was nearly identical to my letters from Nadezhda only a different small town w/couple phones, Internet Club, etc. I couldn't believe what I was reading! This scammer, named Ludmila also had the same dream about a new email from me and she too "ran to the Internet Club only to find all the computers being used"!!! Then, this Ludmila went to her fathers house to prepare lunch and told him about "us", just like my Nadezhda did! Ludmilas pics were of a different person than Nadezhda. The letters though were nearly identical. I now have a pretty good idea of what emails to expect from her next. If I hadn't read on this site and found the Blacklist site, I'd still be thinking of a future trip to Russia and would still be putting my heartfelt thoughts into emails (which I found exhausting!). I owe thanks to this site for how it helped me and has helped others.

This woman was pretty smooth I'd say. She never mentioned money or visas or coming to meet me in the US (yet). She did give me her postal address and said she planned to call me on a phone when she got to a big city, etc. (all signs of legitimacy) Her lastest email talks about suddenly meeting her cousin from Moscow who graduated from "Institute of foreighn relations". Gee...I bet she could help arrange a Visa for Nadezhda to visit me in the US !!! and probably get a real good deal on it too! How lucky is that? hehe

At this point, I am tempted to play along for a time just to see how far she'll go. But then again, my time may be better spent on other things. I hope this info might seem familiar to someone else talking to a nice girl in a very small town with 2 phones.

Hey man I just sent you a pm I am also on yahoo personals,my story is very similiar to yours!

If it wasn't some dumb idiot who hasn't done a search on russian would have sent his whole paycheck to russia to a money hungry scammer! That is a sad thought,it has happened though!

I'm glad the both of you could corroborate some of the scam letters you've received. It's unfortunate that this has to happen, but if there's a void (i.e. angle to get money from someone), it's going to get filled.

Glad nobody lost any money!

Well said Bob,hey at least I gained a free education about Russia,I don't believe Russian women are all bad,I am more intelligent than that, the same thing goes on here in the USA,people get desperate for money for whatever reasons and steal from people, stores, etc.
