Let me ask you people from Russia something. Is it customary with people (women) raised in Russia that it is always the man who has to propose first ? Please enlighten me, for the farthest point East I have ever been was Belzec in Poland.

It is customary in Russia for the man to propose--but, generally speaking, it is also customary in the US. However, it is not unheard of in Russia/Ukraine for a woman to propose. Before we met, my husband had been proposed to by four different Ukrainian women
And recently there was an article in Russian Cosmo about the best ways to propose to a man (if you should get tired of waiting for him to do it ).

Speaking of marriage proposals, could people here share for how long they've known their sweethearts before they popped the big question? Obviously, this varies quite a lot
Oh, and by knowing I mean both for how long you have known him or her, and how much time you had actually spent together.
Fishing for some numbers,

My husband officially proposed about 9 months after we met, but we had already been living together for about 6 of those months, and had discussed marriage. So the proposal wasn't really a surprise--he had simply been waiting until we went on vacation so that he could have a more romantic setting We got married exactly one year (to the day) after our first date
