Recommended Calling Card Provider?

Hi All,

I was wondering if people would share with me their preferred Calling Card provider? I'm looking for a calling card for calls to Russia (from the US).

Thanks!

Bob K.

I have been pretty impressed by the offerings of this company and specificly this card for calling provincial Russia. When I travel for work I use it with my cell phone. Regular rate is 7.9 cents per minute, but with free long distance on the cell, I can use the New York access #s and the price drops by 1 cent per minute. With no access charge, you get @ 250 minutes (or 4 hrs +) for $20.00. The PIN is 10 digits. Calls are very clear, rarely get dumped, and connections are as good as the "switched service" on my home phone.

Hi Jim and Bob

It's o.k... we can talk about calling card company names in this thread

I use Nobelcom.com calling cards (I've used them for over a year, and Lena uses them to call Belarus).

The last time I checked, their rates were 5 cents per minute to Msocow (plus tax, which is taken out of your calling card balance).

Their call quality has been pretty good (very good to Moscow, when I used to call there before meeting Lena)....

Jim... can you do our group a favor and post a review of your calling card service in the Russian review section?? And I will post a review for Nobelcom...

I want to make the Russian Review section a resource for people looking for this kind of information.

Thanks,

Khashyar

Hi guys....

I just looked up the most current rates (as of April 26, 2003) for phone cards from nobelcom.com:

caling Russia: 5.9 cents per minute (plus federal FCC taxes, etc)
calling Moscow: 2.9 cents per minute
calling St. Petersburg: 3.3 cents per minute
calling Belarus: 14.9 cents per minute
calling Ukraine: 9.9 cents per minute
calling Kiev: 6.9 cents per minute
calling Odessa: 9.4 cents per minute

VERY cheap...

F.Y.I.: You also receive $10 for referring a friend to their calling cards, and $5 for your referred friends referring their friends, but I am not posting this message to receive any referrals (In fact, I have never received any money from Nobelcom at all, and have never received money for any referals to them)

LOL, not too bad for holding the camera at arm's length and pointing it at ourselves In the full size version, you can actually tell that the grey blob in back is Tower Bridge in London, but you can only do so much with 50 X 50 pixels

Hi Bob
I use a great pre-paid calling card that you buy from the store. But only could be used in California. It is called "L.A. Aggressive", and the service is provided by IDT Corp. If you call one of the local access numbers in L.A. metro area you can get a lower rate than the 800#. With a $10 card I can call to Nizhny Novgorod from L.A. and the card gives me a whopping 3 hours and 10 minutes. And you can call as many times as you want and there is no access or service fee, only if you keep the card after activation for 2 months, and have not used it all up for a mere 65 cents. Oh yeah the quality of the phone call is good, I could hear my fiancee just fine and crisp on the phone. About other places in Russia I dont know how many more or less minutes you get. But last time I called Moscow, I got more minutes than calling to NN. You wont be able to find this card in every store, but many stores that sell pre-paid phone cards should have it in stock. Good luck in finding a calling card.

Be happy for thoose rates. here is what itt cost in Denmark to Russia:

Regular phone, by the main teleprovide in this country: 85 c/min.
Special provider (dial numbers 4 numbers before the the russian country code): 33 c/min.
Prepaid card: 19 c/min

I would like to send a card to my lady, so she can calls me in a emergency, here the start fee is 1 dollar and then 92 c/min. Anyone with knowledge of buying a prepaid card in Russia via the net and then have it send to her address?

It's good to know various calling card rates...

Brian... I am not sure of what kind of calling card to send to your lady so that she can call you...

I bought a calling card in Poland last summer when I wanted to call Belarus and the U.S., and the card was expensive (over $1 per minute)....

I wonder what cards might be available for your situation...

(Jim... I also did a lot of one handed self-portraits of Lena and I Some of them came out very good...)

Dax... how many cents per minute does you card offer??? Do they state a certain cents per miniute??

Jutman, check these guys out:

I have an account with them as well (I set it up for Liliya, but it worked great to call my parents from Russia when I was there too), compared to what you quoted, their prices are not too bad.
Denmark to Russia $0.33 USD
Russia to Denmark $0.68 USD

CogniCall is a Global Origination Calling Card!

This is not a prepaid, but monthly billed calling card that will allow you to make a call from more than 50 countries thru an extensive worldwide fiber-optic network, with ultra-low rates, no activation fee, no monthly fee and no physical calling card!

You also get a printable monthly statement by e-mail showing all calls made, the phone # dialed, and duration of call. You will need a credit card to hook to it.

Hello gang!
I am on Pimsleur's Unit 7 of Basic Russian and Inna and I have decided to finally speak on the phone! Now my problem, besides lack of speaking ability is who would offer the best deal from Washington DC area to Bishkek, Kyrgystan? I have seen the previous threads but nothing seems to get close to where I am aiming at. Thanks!

I use www.mychitchat.com - they actually have good rates and their calling card rates are very reasonable to Russia.

Hopefully this will be helpful.

Interesting that it costs more to call Moscow and St. Petersburg than to call elsewhere in Russia. But most of the Russian prices are more expensive than the majority of the cars out there (all other plan points being equal).

Also an interesting screen name. How are you associated with these guys?

Posted by: lester

Maybe?
Interesting screen name indeed!
