Does anyone know the best way to create streaming video files for this website?

Hi Everyone,

I have some interesting video of Lena and me in Russia and Belarus during my first 2002 trip to Russia, and I wanted to create streaming video files.

I already know how to create movietime(mov) or AVI files with adobe premiere video editing software, but I don't know what is the best way to create streaming files with them (so that someone can watch the video pieces at a time as it downloads from my website's erver).

Of course, I could allow everyone to just download the complete video files, but for some people, that would just take too long and I think that offering streaming video files would be the best option.

Does anyone know what the best software is to produce streaming video files?

Also... I know that many streaming files use Real Player software, which I am not sure everyone has on their computer.

(Perhaps I should offer it in "real" AND "movietimes"(Apple) versions.)

Which is the best format for streaming?

Thanks to those webmasters out there who might have an idea about this.

Hey Khashyar,

Quicktime or at least Apples software will allow you to edit video a bit to make it into segments and into a small video, e.g. - 320 x 260 versus 640 x 525 (or something like that).

I am a Mac user and have the capabilities to do this. There are some nice packages that come with newer Macs. They are simple but adequate for many tasks.

Thank you, Mark.

I was also concerned that video files would be too large for people to download...

Do you know what the other settings would be for adequate video streaming? (like frames per second, etc?)

Perhaps we can speak in more detail about what the best settings are to do this.

Also, do you know the best software to use to create streaming Window media files? (asf files?).

There are multiple format and sizes. if you have QuickTime Pro, you can save in most of the formats.

Some of the better compression is the telephone Codecs. 2GP/ 3GP as an example. This is what Larisa sent me.

I am on ADSL (4096 kbit down, 768kbit up), so size doesn't bother me.

Hmmm..... true...

I have a high speed connection and Quick Time Pro so I could possibly convert some of those files for you, Khashyar.

Just let me know and we'll talk more about it.
