Hi Everyone,

I just want to let you know that I am going to be in Madrid, Spain from this Monday (November 8th) until Thursday November 18th.

My step-grandmother died in Madrid. She was married to my mom's father (my grandfather) for over 20 years.

My grandfather died in the 1980s, so we need to go to Spain to deal with the necessary things there.

Lena is going to stay in Los Angeles because of her commitments here.

Although I met my step-grandmother twice (once when I was about 14, and once in 1997 during a trip to Europe) and didn't know her that well, I still feel a little bit of emotion about her death, as well as because of the thought that we need to go through her and my gandfather's possessions, photos, etc.

But, this is a necessary past of life, and I think that it helps in undestanding and accepting the inevitability of death, which is a natural part of life.

So, I don't think that there are many Russians in Madrid, but I will let you know if I come across any

I am going to try to go to an internet cafe and check in the forum while I am gone.

Thanks for the words, Mike...

I wasn't really that close to my step-grandmother, but when someone you know dies, I think that there sadness simply in the issue of facing that fact that we are all mortal, and that we and everyone we know is going to die at some point.

So, maybe by facing our mortality, we can have a clearer motivation to live the very best life we can while we are here.

Thanks again for the kind words...

My condolences to your family Khashyar. I'll assume that both meetings with your step-grandmother were warm, given that you'll travel a significant distance and for 10 days. You'll likely find treasures in your grandfather's possessions (sentimental treasures, to be sure) when you get there. When by parents died, I found any number of keepsakes from my grandparents, and they are absolutely priceless to me.

Thanks, Brad.

Yes, My mom mentioned that there should be some very old photos and other items that have a lot of sentimental value to my mom and my family.

It's going to be quite a job to sort through all of my step-grandmother and grandfather's possessions....

But, It will bring up a lot of thoughts and sentimental feelings however.

Hi Everyone,

I returned last night to Los Angeles from Madrid, Spain.

I helped my mom deal with everything related to the death of my step-grandmother...

I was certainly happy to help my family in this situation, but I am happy to be back home in Los Angeles

(p.s.: I was surprised that I was able to converse very well in Spanish, and even translate for my mom.... This must be a result of being exposed to Spaanish regularly in L.A.)

Thank you very much, Brian and Fisherman...

It felt a bit strange not checking and writing messages while I was away...
