Olga Conroy is a woman living near Oklahoma City who is married to a man who savagely beat her, locked her in the closet, and left her for dead. He kidnapped their son and disappeared. Luckily for her she broke out of her bindings and contacted the police. Her husband Mike was a arrested a few days later near Dallas. He had dyed his baby son's blonde hair a shade of purple to avoid detection.

Mike is now in jail, and the we are raising funds to help her through these difficult times.

I understand that these things are unpleasant. I understand that if you go to a forum to talk about love, relationship and fun its odd to look at those things. But I think because this is "the other side of the coin", "we guys" should also keep in mind, that those things happen too....
Please do not understand this as any kind of accusition because it happened in us. There are many such cases anywhere in europe too. I just posted that one, first to show you that the community here seems to be quite special, and second because its important for all of us to know about that cases like this being possible. I think this helps to understand both sides better!

Thanks for posting the website , rob. It is horrific reading and the worst part is the man she married looks like he was convicted of murder and sexually assaulting one of his daughters through a previous marriage ... I do not think if this woman had known this before she had married him that she would have agreed to the marriage.
The second thing that comes across is that the guy was a control
freak - it sounds like he wanted all decisions to be made through him only - no wonder this lady was unhappy - what kind of a marriage is it where your very ability make decisions and to generally live as a woman are decided by another person ?incredible !!!

Thanks Rob_we. That's a horrible, horrible story but it's not the first time I've heard about this. It happens to many women (foreign or not.) The most startling photo (to me) is the black eye. Physical violence and abuse should never be tolerated in a relationship IMHO. It's a pity that Olga didn't discover Myke's past history earlier.

According to the Oklahoma prison records (link above), Michael Conroy served two consecutive terms for convictions in 1986 of indecent proposals to a child and indecent acts with a child. He was released in 1995, not 1990 as indicated by Olga Conroy.

What I have a problem with is there is no record of any convictions afterwards, not for kidnapping his child, or assaulting his wife, or anything else that is claimed by Olga. Is this something so recent that it is still in trial? Because other than that possibility, I would say the lack of supporting convictions make me suspicious of what the woman asking for money has to say. I also checked the federal prisons database (http://inmateloc.bop.gov/locatordocs/NameSearchPage.jsp) and I did not find any current convictions at the federal level for any of the things Olga claimed (kidnapping, assault, etc.) I do, however, find it interesting that a Michael Conroy (no middle name given) age 59 was released from federal prison in 1982 (the year these records start - no indication of why he was in and no way to tell if it was the same Michael Conroy).

Can you find recent-pending cases there on this site? Maybe it would be helpful if someone contacts the "olga" website to find out.

It looks very "believeable" and true to me, but I have no further infos.

All of this stuff is true. The pictures in which Olga was wearing a red dress, were taken at a gathering of Russian wives and their American husbands. The people in that group of friends were all shocked when it happened and they are the ones who uncovered Mike's criminal past.

There is more detail about this case on a Yahoo mailing list whose name I can't remember, but that's not really too important. Most of Olga's story isn't unusual. She's just one of many, many American women who get beat up by their husbands. Inevitably it happens to some Russian wives as well and Olga is certainly not the first case. If you frequent the Russian language forums for Russian wives then you will also know that similar things have happened to other women this same summer, 2004.

The major difference with Olga's case is that she met her future husband when she was still underage and he had a criminal record for sex related crimes. I believe that current U.S. immigration laws prevent this from happening because the US government will reveal criminal records to any woman who applies for a marriage visa.

While it's all well and good to feel sorry for Olga and want to help her, she is not the only woman with problems. Your energy would be better spent to find women in your area and set up support groups. Let the people in Oklahoma and North Texas help Olga.

I've seen numerous places where people try to organize local get togethers, including this board, and I think this is great. But I wonder if anyone has any ideas for setting up a single shared contact point so that all the partial lists, etc. can be combined somehow. Probably more local social groups would result.

Just go to a circuit clerk's office in any county in Illinois and there's more "other side of the coin" than you'll believe.

Read too many of the cases and you'll regret you ever looked in the first place.

I have found this story on one russian women's forum and detective work was also made by one of them.

As I know in US there are lot os women's organizations that help women in crisis situation and we start to publish on our site information about them, emergency telephones and shelters in different countries. And plan to write about what to do and how to recognize domestic violence and where to get help.

Here in the US, when something like this happens, a third organization (a church, lions club, Kiwanis, etc) always act as the mediator. Meaning that they get the money and then they take care of the victim

b) She offered the option of gift cards.
4 of the 6 places she asked for gift cards are for stores that sell non-essential items
Big Lots and TJ Maxx. Clothing items, brand name items at discount.
Dillard�s. Clothing items and electronics. Fairly expensive by the way!!!!
Pier 1 Imports. Furniture items. Very nice furniture and ornaments mostly imported, fairly expensive!!
Target and Wal-Mart . A little bit of everything, food, clothes, furniture. Inexpensive items. This two are the only ones that make sense for people in dispair.

Hello Panel.

I feel this lady is just a kid and should never have married this guy, he was way to old for her.

The sad thing is she was just a toy to him and he was nothing more than a pervert and a sick old man who got his kicks through violence and sex.

This guy would go very low to get what he wants, he is classed as a paedophile.

I hope this lady can rebuild her life and get her child back, but its a wake up warning for other Russian Ladies take your time and get to know the person before you make the jump, whats wrong in waiting.

As they say all good things come to them who wait.
