Hi Everyone,

I just scanned a newspaper article that was in the "Mogilev Pravda" that was written about the Russian Meeting Place, as well as about Lena, her life in America, and Russian Western relationships.

We will try to translate the article as soon as we can (as soon as Lena can, once she has caught up on her 4 weeks of emails, etc )

But for now, I wanted to post the scanned newspaper article.

The article began on the front page.

(Notice the two actors faces that were include in the article Lena has seen Arnold, and has shaken Jackie Chan's hand, so the reporter decided to put photos of their faces in the article )

Ha ha ha, I love it!

I assume that Lena has translated the title for you?

----------------
A young Mogilev girl found her happiness in the City of Angels

MARRIED

IN HOLLYWOOD!

Your own personal movie poster :-)

Technical note: If you ever want to scan newspaper articles in a legible format, i.e. so that people can read the text, then tell the scanner software to save it in GIF format.

If you can pull together these interviews, articles, etc., then this will become one of the most informative FSU sites on the net from a cultural point of view. Good work!

Thank you wavetossed

I can actually resave the article, from it's original larger format, to a GIF file.

Would a GIF file be that much clearer than a JPEG at the same KB size?

Thanks again for your comments and feedback.

Technical note: everytime you resave an image using any compressed format, you lose some kind of detail. The JPEG has already lost detail so saving it in a GIF may not work. However, if you have another GIF that has more pixels then perhaps you have enough extra detail to get away with doing this. Since the goal is text legibility, you should be able to tell this by looking at the bigger JPEG.

Normally, I advise people to do it straight from the scanner. You might want to do an experiment and try rescanning and going straight to JPEG. Compare the two.

The way that JPEG works is to make things fuzzier by throwing away some detail. But GIF doesn't throw away detail, it just looks for horizontal runs of the same color and stores them more efficiently. The ideal image for GIF is a cartoon or sharp clear text. The ideal image for a JPEG is a photo.

Congratulations ... but then, as they say, "there is no pravda in the Pravda" ...

And by the way - they still haven't chagned the names of newspapers from "Pravda" to something that doesn't remind one of communism ?!

Thank you wavetossed....

I do have a large detailed original scan of the article, so I will try to resave it in GIf format and see if we can see any more details.

Hi Pawel... Actually, Lena just told me that this particular paper is not called the "Mogilev Pravda".... I think that the news reporter writes for more than one newspaper, including the "Mogilev Pravda."

I will ask Lena what the exact name of this newspaper is...

Why do I think that Lena will say it is the Dneprovskaya Nedelya?

:-)

But the Mogilev Pravda does exist as does the national newspaper named Pravda and a few other regional ones. The national one publishes some material in English http://english.pravda.ru/

that is totally awesome.... you guys are on the frontpage with jackie chan and arnold, but their pictures are smaller.. man that must trip to see yourself in papers. congrats...

Thank you for the information, Wavetossed. I think that you are correct about the title ..

Hello Menehune.... I'm happy about the article because it helps give the website more exposure, and may help in creating some healthy and happy Russian-Western relationships....
