WE have been emailing for last 2 months. She claims she is a doctor and go a visitors visa. she says she bought airline ticket and is at airport in moscow but they wont let her leave because. I have pasted email below.

Now I in Moscow. Bill! I've specially arrived beforehand to not
be late aboard the plane. But now I've a problem. I can't get
registration and the sanction in anti-immigration committee. I've been
informed that according to the law for Citizens of Russia who leave our
country with visa without residence permit, if I go to your country I'm
obliged to have cash as confirmation that I possess monetary resources.
I can't receive sanction to get registration at the airport. I'm
obliged to show them 500 dollars. If I've 500 dollars I will receive
registration and the sanction of anti-immigration committee. The law
obliges me to have money as confirmation, that in your country I will
have money resources for existence and livelihoods during that time
which I will spend there. I should show 500 dollars. If I will show
money, I will receive confirmation that I possess monetary resources
and I will get the official sanction to leave my country with the visa.
Otherwise they have no right to let me go to your country. Please, as
soon as possible send me 500 dollars. I will show this money and I will
receive the sanction. This money are necessary for me only to show at
anti-immigration committee. I will give you this money right at the
airport. I should not pay anything. I simply should show money and then
I can leave customs house. Please, send me money as soon as possible
because I have no money. Please, use system of Western Union because
here there is several banks, which uses this system of a remittance and
I can receive your money. Bill, my nerves on a limit. I got the
formal notice, according to which I should have money to leave my
country according to the law. I cannot write much because I use the
Internet - cafe and I've no money for that. Here only three computers
and so many people. I should spend night in Moscow in a waiting room.
It's much more terrible than I thought. Tomorrow I again will use
Internet - cafe to receive your letter. I cannot be in Moscow for a
long time, because I have no money for a meal and a for the night
lodging. I only have slightly of meal that I took at home for my trip
in a train. Now already evening. I should receive the sanction of
anti-immigration committee as soon as possible because I cannot be in
Moscow for a long time. I am nervous very much. With love.

Sounds like a typical money scam to me.
Sorry to tell you that IMHO
If you read past post here in scammer section you may see the pattern with these types of scams.
Maybe it isnt but if it were me I would be cautious about sending the money.
I dont know the whole story with you and this woman but it does not sound good to me. I am seeing red flags go up.

This was the prior letter! I did send the $188.00 and now she says she's at the airport and needs more money per prvious post. Has anyone ever heard you need to show means of sustanance before you leave Russia at immigrations??

Hello my dearest Bill!

I have good news, very good for me and for you! I have looked
forward to this day. Yeterday I visited American Embassy in Moscow
again. I have got the visa. I'm immensely happy. I will leave the work
in the bureau on the 23 of September and I willbe able to come to you.
I will be able to see you in person!!!
I addressed the company which sells tickets for plans. I asked them
how I would be able to go to Los Angeles on the 24 of September,
and how much it would cost. They said that the ticket would cost $642
USD.
I asked them to find a cheaper ticket, because the price is too high
for
me. But as it turned out I wouldn't be able to have a cheaper ticket so
quicly, the date is too early. Tickets must be reserved long
beforehand. I asked them to offfer me other variants of the flight. We
found the most suitable one. The flight, is on the 27 of September
2004. The ticket costs $588 USD. I asked the to reserve the ticket for
me. But they refused to do it having said that they had a lot of
clients. They can't reserve my ticket without adwanced money. I was
imploring them. But it didn't work. They said that they would help me
with great pleasure but they couldn't. The rules are so. I was in a
panic, I was so disappointed. Then I asked themif I could give just a
part of the money. But they didn't agree again. I asked them for a long
time saying that my fiance Bill is waiting for me. If I asked them a
little bit longer I would burst out of crying. Maybe God heard my
prayers, and the service worked agreed to reserve the ticket on my
conditions. But I have too little time to pay, for the ticket. They
said if I didn't day the rest of the ticket price, I would loose the
money I'd already given to them. I was angry, but they explained that
it would be very difficult to sell the ticket for the plane which is
flying. They would have to lower the price. I agreed. They told me to
pay $450 USD. But it was too much for me, because I had only 350.
I asked to wait for me during 2 hours. I went out of the room. Marina
met
me at the door. I told her everything. She understood everything and
adviced
me to pawn our treasures to a pawnshop. Bill, it was very difficult for
me to
agree to do it. I didn't want to burden Marina. But at the same time I
want
to meet you, Bill very much. We pawned the treasures, I got $100 USD
and I paid the part of the ticket price $450 USD. It was my last money,
it was for the plane by which I'm going to come to you.

all what I could. I have paid for the visa. I have paid for the part of
the ticket. But this was not enough. The money was not enough. I didn't
want to burden you. I wanted to come to you with nobody's help. I
thought my money would be enough. But I failed. Now I feel guilty
muself. I didn't manage to do all myselffor our meeting. I thought
nothing would prevent me from meeting you. But I must pay the rest of

for me. Our bureau depends on the budget, it didn't get money for a
long time. I think it's because of the terrorist acts in Moscow and in
Beslan.
Probably I must say to you that I won't be able to meet you becouse
I won't be able to pay the whole sum of money myself. Of course I
realize that I shouldn't ask you to give me the money. But at the time
I can't just that I won't come to you. I have done too much to organize
our meeting. If I refuse to meet you it will mean that everything was

They told me that it's the best way for me to get money. There is other remittance system, but at present unfortunately it doesn't work all the time, because some renovation and upgrade of the equipment and signalizing system are made there. But they say that "Western Union" always works and people trust it. I give you the
necessary details to send me the money by "Western Union".
They said to me in the bank that to get money from you I must say to the bank workers your full name, you full address, the exact sum of money, which I must get and some confidental numbers (MTCN this 10 digitals). This number will be given to you by your bank, if you send me your help. Only in the case when all the information is sent to me I will get your help.
Please forgive me my words. I say so because I'm in despair. Now when just one step can connect us, I'm afraid. I need you, I want to be with you, I need you help, believe me, I'm honest with you. I sent her the mony on this one - now she says seh's at the airport. I have insisted she call me and she has a couple times but both times the call cuts off after aboyt 30 seconds and she blames it on phone syste. I have copy of her visa and a friend of mine who works for govt. says it looks authentic.

Hummm ,
Visa looks authentic , what kind of visa ( fiancee ,work ,student) ?
It is difficult to get a visa to the USA period for a Russian woman.
Dam near impossible unless it is fiancee visa which this visa cannot be.
You must realize that these scammers are getting very clever. They have to because of all the anti scam sites out there.
Still it is hard to tell as the letters are pretty accurate.
I dont know about the 300 AM flight out of Moscow.
I do not think they fly that late at night there to get to LA.
Aeroflot usually has just one flight to the USA to LA a day , which is usually about 10:00 Am. I am pretty sure but I could be wrong.
I dont work for the airport ,Heh.
If your talking to her on the phone does the area code seem like along distants?
If you dial her do you dial 011-7-xxx-xxx-xxxx ?
Phone calls always cut out in Russia so that could be true.
Its a tough call but I still see red flags.
Myself ,I would not send money but I dont know the whole story either.

First, I am positive that the law she is mentioning exists only in her plot!

Besides, It doesn't make sense that she is suposedly traveling with NO MONEY.

Do not, I repeat don't feel bad about it!
You should feel bad that you were scammed almost 200dlls.

She is probably sharing that money with her lover in Rusia!
THey are drinking in you honor, that is for sure!

FYI, I met with a RW in France not long ago (things just didn't work out between the two of us). But she DIDN"T have to pay or show that money!

I have heard of this before. Liliya had to show cash before meeting me in UK, luckily she had the cash on hand (I think it was $200, as she could show a prepaid R/T ticket and prepaid Lodging from arrival to departure date). What I would do is call Dept of State ( Public Inquiries Division (202) 663-1225 ) or Moscow Embassy (From the U.S.A.: 1-888-222-5673. Payment by credit card only. All calls $1.75 per minute.)
to see if this is an authentic requirement.

I can't find ANYTHING on the DOS or Embassy websites about this.

PS remember The Embassy line runs on Moscow time (midnite to 8am Eastern time)

I just spoke with embassy and they said that she DOES NOT need to show money to travel. All she needs is a Travel Visa and a ticket.

Just saved me 400.00 and allot of hassle.

I wrote here and told her they where lying to her at the Airport and that she needs to get on the plane and call me collect when she connects in NYC sho I know she is safely in US.

I also informed her, many of my friends can't wait to meet her and take her shopping fro new cothes to wear while she is here, and that I am getting a promotion soon, and will have allot of money to spend on her to make all her dreams come true should things be good between us.

Pick out some random numbers numbers that resemble a Western Union money gram. Then find several ban address that ARE NOT close to the SVO airport. Lead her on a wild goose chase. IF you are sure that she is a scammer.

I Spoke to the imigration at Customs at Airport in NYC. The guys there said that they WOULD send someone home who is traveling on a visitors visa as they would assume they where trying to immigrate if they had no means for lodging, entertainment etc.

He said if she was traveling with no manoey he would send her back where she came from and would detemine how much she would based on how long she was stayin. Especially if she had no credit cards.

Her is the last letter I got from her.

tomorrow this money will be returned to them. I very much hope for you

Bill , as the previous post said - if you send money it may be the only way you will know for sure if she is a fraudster . One question - how long have you both been writing to each other ? Also has she told you she loved you , Bill ? If she has told you she loves you without any meeting I can say DEFINITELY it is a scam because a normal woman would not tell someone they have never met that they love that person because it takes time to get to know someone .

The phrase " tomorrow the money will be returned " sounds like a typical scam artists enticement to induce trust - do not fall for it as you will only lose your money and a part of you will find it harder to trust someoen on the internet.

For what its worth , I would write or telephone her and tell her that you will come to see her in her home town - that way you will remove the issue of money from the equation ,you will see her in her country and have a great holiday . If she is genuinly interested in meeting you rather than just acquiring your hard earned cash , she will agree to this arrangement. Otherwise , Bill , I would not continue the correspondance as it is only leading you to waste time and energy on what appears to be a scam.

It was pretty convincing, she/he sent me a voice recorder, I don't know if Jim got it too, but I got it and my friend told me that I should give it a try to know the truth. I got punk'd because I followed my emotion instead of my rational thinking. If I ever join this forum a few days earlier I might be able to avoid this situation. Now I just have to prove it by going to the airport today to see if it is a fraud or something else, just to make sure. Damn it!!!

I feel bad for you. Nearly everybody here has encountered a scammer, for most it is just disapointment. Money loss makes it worse.

I await your reponse... and then the ticket is no good and she needs more.. or something else happens and she needs more... or, she just says I got $688 off you and that is enough.. on to my next mark...

you should definitely stop any communication with any woman that asks for money. my Russian wife never asked for a penny. she told me that it is out of character, and considered bad mannors for a Russian woman to ask for anything..particularly money. In Russia, friends and family help each other through difficult situations, it is highly unlikely that she would be ridiculed by her circle of friends and family if her plans did not work out, if indeed what she says is true...which i highly doubt......

the only source to have a say about whether visas are "real" or not is the diplomatic authority in charge of issuing them: ask them, be precise & concise & remember it's their duty to serve you.

How do such fake visas come out?
Well, computer doctored items are very common:
a) perhaps it's entirely made up
b) perhaps it's some real visa whose bio was changed

you can report:
a) to the embassy
b) to WU ( though they are extremely lenient, it is said those who get complaints on file cannot receive further wires )
c) to antiscam sites (mileages vary. at times be prepared to back your evidence up extensively and to be questioned yourself ).

Is that what a U.S. Visa looks like? That looks more like a passport than a Visa to me. Maybe one of the Russian/Ukranian women who have a U.S. Visa can tell what one looks like.

I agree it is a scam, this sounds like so many of the scam letters I have read on the internet. It is always the spleen or the liver.

Do a google search for Russian Women Blacklist you can blacklist her there, but like said you can check out if it is a real Visa or not. It may clear the mind of any what if's you feel. Just don't get your hopes up.

Actually, this is exactly what a US visa looks like! They even took the time to get the machine readable text at the bottom correct, including her birthday.
The problem is in a few of the details:
Photo is too clear these photos are more like a photo copy and the paper has no finish so this photo is actually too good to be real

Look at the allowed entries "1"
USA does not issue a single entry visa under the B1/B2 classification (should say "Multi")

Look very carefully at the area around her picture, under the word VISA there is a dark blue area shaped like a bullet that extends into her photo. Now, look at the "dithering" (pattern) in the slightly lighter blue areas to the left and right. They dont match! They are similar but not the same. If you enlarge the pic posted 4x or more you will see glaring inconsistancies in the .jpg diffusion

That's just too funny, Jim. I pulled it up in my photo editor for only a moment (had to head out and play taxi driver). Only had time to notice that it all looked TOO perfect. I have a decent flatbed scanner here, and it takes me some time to make a nice scan like that one. Seemed like someone worked TOO HARD to make sure nothing was out of place...

First English visa is very different from American visa, first if she is from Moscow, St Petersburg, Minsk you will not need Insurance for medical care and how many hospitals have internet cafe.

Can't you contact your embassy in Moscow to see if a visa has really been issued. I was caught in a scam and the British embassy in Moscow told me that no visa had been issued for the name that I was given. I'm sure other embassies could give similar help. It was all done by email too.

Natalya has a valid point, men tend to chase after the catwalk queens and forget the real good ones, the thousands who have great personalities and good hearts and who are looking for proper relationships and are actually more beautiful in the flesh than you can imagine.

I think Nataly is off base... and thinks that all we do is look for the model looking woman... someone who is 25 to 28 and drop dead georgeous... I do not think this is true... from the pictures of women I see on this board that men have posted, I would say they are 'normal' looking women... yes, they can look good, but not the kind every man will turn to look at...

I got this same response from a couple of the women I wrote.. I think it is because they read that is all men are interested in and that the beautiful ones get a lot of mail... but, I think these are the internet romeos and not a truly interested guy...

Agreed TP. The scammers I encountered were not the best looking women I emailed, maybe even the least. I met two of the best looking (one in friendship) and they are quite real, and at least one of them very honest and innocent seeming. One of the two I met even did the "glamour shots" and she was better looking in real life, but a very quiet and timid person.

It seems like the scammers are the ones that write the beautiful/great sounding profiles. The honest ones post a pretty photo and say nothing.

Then it's all a big muddy gray pond...s/he may have just "changed her mind" and your sending $100 or 100000 to help her with internet fees & the knee replacement of her dearest auntie means just that you played the brave chivalrous gent, yet you were not meant together.

That's why there is no specific law against this kind of fraud.

I say: send no money & let the next sucker deal with the question whether s/he's "really" that pretty..or just wanting to sort an effect; whether s/he's real or a stolen picture, etc.

Thanks Conner for that info, I already sent them all info that I have, the pictures and the voice recorder of the scam. Hope it will be useful for the federal agents to find those fraud syndicate. Those scam still contact me and I believe they still want more money and when they become greedy it will be the time for me to use it as a bait and report it to the Western Union so they can keep track where the transaction goes and catch those scam.

She doesn't show up on any of the other scam databases either, so she's either a good girl, or a first time scammer.

She's most probably safe from the scams point of view, and worth writing to if she's caught your attention.

I got this same exact identical letter from the exact same person this morning. Mariya Gorshunowa. She actually had me going. We have been had. I was not about to send her $500, but i am glad i searched and found this board so I would not have that doubt in the back of my mind. I think i will set her up now. I will tell her I sent the money and good news. Will tell her my brother has friend in KGB and I sent the money in her friends name and his and he will meet them at imigration office so they can withdraw the money together using his and her friends ID. Ha! Not sure how to post a picture on here, but I would like to post her pic and fake visa for everyone to see. Thanks forum for clearing any doubts in my mind.

Hmmm....that's interestng Svetlana was the name of her 'best freind' that she kept writing to me about these past months. I received another letter from her today:

Small chance of that happening. Best way to find where they are located is to get details of where to send a western union payment to. Tell them you have sent something when you havent just to screw them around a little then post all the details to a scam site.
