How Friends and Family React?

Hello all !!!

How have your friends and family reacted to seeking a life partner from the FSU?

I am curious as to others experiences with the reactions and attitudes of friends and family members with others who have found their mate or are searching in the FSU?
I have had a fair amount of negative reactions from my friends and some family members over an upcoming trip in October to meet a friend that may become quite more. Many of the arguments have been based on ignorant preconceived “Russian Bride” stereotyping.
The positive comments have been very happy and encouraging. Especially from my 7 year old son. )

Thanks and have a GREAT day!!!

i will say that before i met Natasha in person i caught some flak about it from friends and family. however, after my first visit i never heard anything negative about us. not that it would make any difference too me anyhow. Gino

I really got a lot of flak over going to Russia to meet a woman.
Both from family and friends.
Now however my friends who always made jokes about it now asked if she has any friends looking for a western man
I think there is a bit of jealousy and envy on their parts.
Not many people will go to another country to meet a woman.
Its an adventure not many take I suspect.

Hello Panel,

My friend got me into the Russian dating game he is Russian the only problem i have had is i met the wrong lady, i guess this is life.

For me its not adventure but to meet the Princess of my dreams this will be my final trip to Russia before i met my lady i was heading towards Poland but Panel why i look abroad is to find honest wife who wants family and nice home.

Regards,

Neil

I'm not marrying a Russian bride. I don't tell people that I'm going to Russia to find a woman to marry. I simply tell them that I met a woman over the Internet (which is more and more common these days) and she happens to be Russian.

It's true. We corresponded by email an average of 4 times a week for 4 months before I went to visit her. I guess this is another advantage of meeting via the Internet before visiting.

My fears were that my family would not understand and that my friends would be my support group.

Instead, my mom was very understanding and accepting. My brother was a bit cautious and my sister fully played-up the stereotypes of the "mail order bride." My friends were mostly supportive with a few exceptions.

In the end, it really comes down to whether I'm happy or not. And quite honestly, I'm thrilled! I can't control other people's happiness, but I can control mine!

Once they meet in person, I'm certain they will be even more supportive.

I haven't had any negetive feed back from friends or family. In fact several of my friends have asked if Tanya has any friends that are looking for good men also.
I'll be going back to Ukraine in a couple of months to marry her there. (IF she'll have me) Then I'm planning to do the direct consular filing to bring her home to Alaska.
