I am very interested in Russia and finding a good Russia forum to learn more about it. Has anyone here been on many? I have also posted on the Pravda forum and I think that there is a constant battle between Russians and Americans on the forum that degenerates into name calling. This forum seems much more civil.

Hi tj...

Welcome to the Russian Meeting Place.

I hope that you understand that I would rather not advertise or promote other Russian forums here (because it might work against our efforts to expand and promote this forum).

But, people are welcome to send you a private message about other Russian forums.

Thanks again for being a part of the Russian Meeting Place.

Khashyar, I will not mention other Russian forums anymore. I will simply point out that this forum is more civil than some of the others that I have been on.

It's o.k., tjt

We actually try to maintain a polite respectfulness here, while at the same time being free to disagree and freely express our opinions...

I hope you understand about our feeling regarding not advertising other forums here... I am sure that someone can send you a PM regarding a couple of other Russian forums.

But, Lena and I welcome you here. Feel free to jump right in and contribute your thoughts and ideas.

Khashyar,

What about forums that look at Russia from a completely different viewpoint?

For instance the Russia Journal has some forums which focus on geopolitical and economic issues at http://clubs.russiajournal.com/trj/

If you still don't want this here then feel free to delete my message.

I don't know if you feel that a social networking site is in competition with these forums. I've recently joined a small social networking site called dotNode that fully supports Cyrillic and I'm trying to get a Russia interest group started there. Of course, it's aimed at people who speak Russian. If anyone wants to join this, you'll need to send me a message to ask for an invitation. And because this is a small site, you should also be willing to invite other Russian-speaking friends.

I'm hoping that Khashyar doesn't see this as competition, but if he does, he will delete this message without a trace. :-)

Hi,

I made a research on Russian forums because I am interested in being in contact with Russian people for learning more about their culture.

There are just a few forums that are really well visited and decently orientated. This one is one of them. As a matter of fact, this one is my favorite one despite the sections about "dating etc" it has in it.

It seems to be characteristic of every Russian Forum in English that there are many threads about Russian women. To me, being a woman, this looks a bit cheap and makes me think "Why is it that men can think in such merchandise-way about women?" and also: "How is it that Russian woman let this happen?"

Anyways, maybe I still have to learn a lot about Russian culture and will understand soon that what seems downputting of women to me is just alright with them.

Cheers to all,

Alinka

Hi

My experience is that in every country in the western world, where is a significant numbers of Russians, there is a forum for russians / russian speaking people.

I know there is such one in Britain, Germany and Denmark.

These are NOT a competitor to RMP since these sites operate often in russian language and is connected to local issues, like what time is there an event, how to get a job and so on.

Right, Jutman,
the advantage of this forum is that it has a mix of English and Russian speaking sections. This circumstance makes it easier for non-Russian speakers to be in contact with Russians and read about their experiences.

Cheers from Praha

Oh man, Alinka, don't get me started on that! How the hell we allowed it to happen? How did we become a comodity, MOBs, prostitutes and/or saints, depending on whether a man had an experience with one or another? I can only blame ourselves for that.. Although, when it comes to prostitution, or MOBs, for this matter (not that I put an equal sign between the two), which comes first, demand or supply? IMHO demand, as always.. Anyway, the things are what they are.. I guess, both sides realize their version of American Dream by means available..

Inlove,

oh yearh, basically I agree with you. I didnt mean to criticize anything about it. I just couldn t help having this thought come up.
I do like this forum very much and this would have been the only reason why it s a bit strange for me to be here.

Cheers
