Both of the crashed Russian airplanes probably highjacked (new terrorism in Russia?)

Hi Everyone,

Lena and I have been very busy getting ready for our trip to Belarus on September 1 (in one week)...

So, at least one of the two planes that crashed in Russia today looks as if it was highjacked (I just read this on the CNN website)...

CNN reported that one of the planes sent out a "highjack alert" before crashing.

The airplanes left from Moscow, and were travelling to Sochi and Volgograd...

Lena and I are going to be flying into Moscow first, and then to Minsk...

I am imagining that the airport security will be VERY high when we arrive there next week... (This is going to be fun ).

Hi Everyone,

I just read that both of the airplanes that crashed in Russia emited a "highjack alert" signal before crashing.

So, it seems that it might be a difficult moment for Putin and Russia, and that they may need to deal with terrorism on a different level now.

Yes, I just read this article, too.

The other thing they pointed out is the fact that is was TWO planes crashing within minutes of each other that made it look suspicious (I believe the word they used was "ominous").

Very, very sad

And scary as I will be taking a plane this Saturday

It will be interesting to see how the investigation develops.

Good luck to those with flights in the upcoming days!

Thank you Jill...

Good luck with your flight as well

Even if it was terrorism, a passenger has a very slim chance of being on a plane that is affected by terrorism.

By the way, the latest news is that Russian investigators have stated that they do not se any signs at the crash sites that indicate terrorism.

But, they also stated that both of the airplanes emitted "highjack alerts" before crashing.

Russian Officials mentioned that they had already increased security at airports after the bus station bombing on Tuesday.

I wonder what the airports look like now? Lots of military with machine guns?

Terrorists are sub-human in my opinion. And they are cowards. The taking of innocent lives to make a point? If they believed in their cause enough, why not just blow themselves up in protest and leave everyone else alone. I couldn't care less if they want to turn themselves into a greasy spot on the pavement. But their right to make a statement ends at that.

As for security... I suspect that security will be tight at Sheremyetevo. But with the world becoming a smaller and more violent place, I don't see many alternatives.

One world... one people. Such a simple concept, yet so ellusive...

Now they say it was not terrorism, I am afraid we will end up never knowing, as other times happened and not only in Russia.

My prayers to those on the flights and their families.

Ciao for now.

Yes Andy, I am afraid the conspiracy theories will flourish after this. With the Chechen "election" coming up and all ...

As if a ld relationship is not difficult enough, you have worries everytime you hear some bad news from FSU. I even think some times, "Thank God, just another contract hit" or "Just some gang related vendetta carnage". At least there are people involved in bad business then, and not "innocent" people. It is strange sometimes how the brain works on overdrive to rationalize crazy things ... Total denial, it won't happen to me or my loved ones kind of thing. Bad business ...

All I can do is to continue to love and give my support :-)

Hi guys,

Here is the latest headlines this morning:

"Traces of explosives have been found in the wreckage of one of the two Russian passenger jets which crashed Tuesday, killing 89 people aboard, Russia's top intelligence agency says."

So, it looks as if it was terrorism after all...

(by the way, Lena, Lena's mom, and my mom are all worried about us flying an airplane in and out of the same Moscow airport where the terrorism occurred

I personally believe that the chances are very slim of anything occuring to an airplane that Lena and I are on.

Some Russian official said that this incident is "Russia's 9-11" (This may be true emotionally, but they did not have landmark buildings destroyed and 3,000 people killed).

But it still certainly is a tragic event.

It is so sad when innocent lives have to be involved in somebodies stupitidy.
My heart gos out to the familys of these innocent people.

I seen on one site that they have found traces of explosives in the wreckage,it
indicated hexogen, or RDX.

It is the same type of explosive used in previous attacks blamed on Chechen separatists, including the bombing of an apartment block in Moscow and Volgodonsk in 1999.

An Islamic group claimed responsibility for the crashes in a statement on a website known for militant Muslim content. It said the attacks were to avenge the killing of Muslims in Russia's rebel Chechnya province.

But there are so many differant stories going around right now about this,we may never know the whole truth.

Thanks you for your message, Randy.

Yes, it is certainly a very tragic event, and will cause a lot of pain, hurt and sadness to the many many people whose lives were touched by these ignorant actions.

Did you read about the Russian official that expressed his free speech view- "there goes Civil Rights in Cechnya"- Sounded like 1st Amendment... What I'm saying is that I'm glad he spoke up- that the Russian military doesn't have the right to bust down doors of innocent Cechnian's. Anyway, this is another aspect of the issue.

I want to state that in no way am I supporting terrorism, or the cowardly acts of violence on the innocent, or on anyone.
