Hi guy's I'm pretty new to this site , but I have spent most of the day on it . It's got some great information & it probably just saved me around $1300 US . I am an Australian , I have recently been separated from my second wife , & started to make contact a russian woman . We'll actually she started to make contact with me . Svetlana is her name & lives in Kirov , Doesn't answer a lot of my questions , No phone number , or second name , or address . Wants marriage after the third letter ( probably my fault as I spilt my guts to her ) Wants money for a visa & ticket . (Hey I can understand this , It's got to be hard for them to get hold of this kind of money ) works as a waiter in a bar . The only thing different about this one than i have read in the others is the sex . it sure beats reading playboy forum & I read that russian girls were supposed to be shy about it . Anyway I've attached the last letter for your enjoyment . You may want to edit it a bit first .
I wrote and told her that i would like to come and visit her first and we'll see what happen's from there .
Thanks Guys & Gals ,
Jim

Your reply should include the following:

"Dearest Svetlana,

Please learn to turn-off the CAPS LOCK key. OTHERWISE I WOULD BE YELLING AT YOU! Much like how I must tell you that YOU ARE A COMPLETE SCAMMER AND I WILL NEVER SEND MONEY TO SOMEONE I HAVE NOT MET PERSONALLY.

Sincerely,

Jim"

Sorry... feeling kind-of "punchy" this morning!

Welcome to the forum Jim,

That letter certainly is a breath of fresh air into this scammer thing ... now we can add the word "member" into our list of red flag phrases like "western union" ...

Next!

wow...

your so cool guys. I wonder how it would look like, and how funny it would be to russians if rtking (Mr. CAPS lock) tries to write in kyrillic! Guys do you speak any foreign language? Do you really expect anyone to speak yours? And to know all that (how to write properly) you think is important to know? (Maybe she is using a translator because most guys never would!) I mean she most probably IS a scammer! But the attitude you are running around, "ok then i take anotherone" doesnt it show a little bit that its not about love here at all ? Are you looking for some pretty chick to show off with and that you could never get in your country because the girls there would not even talk to you?

What is this all about?
If you look for love GO THERE! Meet the person. Usually you ORDER a prostitute not a woman you want to marry right? ...and sometimes I really wonder what the real background of someone is, who EVEN CONSIDERS to send a girl money to come over after 3 letters without seing her, talking to her and falling in love with her first! Im not really sure what is worse here to be honest! ...and I dont wanna know how much most guys care about what happens to the girl if she is taken to another country and then the guy doesnt find her appropriate any more!

Yes, I must agree that this woman (or person posing as a woman) almost 100% is a "Scammer."

Hi Jim... Welcome to the RMP forums... I'm happy that you found some information that was helpful.

Hello Rob... I think that most Western men and Russian women are genuine in wanting a happy and genuine relationship with someone.

I don't think that anyone in this thread stated that they want to use anyone or that they see Russian women as sexual objects. Perhaps you misinterpreted what they had written.

And yet, I do know that there are men who want to use women for sex and do not consider the woman's feelings.

But my sense is that no one in this thread was implying or advocating that.

I think you are a very good moderator Moderator comes from moderate and this is what we shold be of course...

but, to be a pain in the ass here again my question, how can you discuss this (yes its obvious) scam letter and not dicussing the fact that someone even consideres to send the money at the same time! If she could (obviously) not be in love then how could he?

..and if he could not why then send the money?

Don´t you think if someone actually sends the money after this time, then he has some other things in mind maybe?

Posted by: Khashyar

Hello Rob...

Yes, I agree that it is not wise to send someone money after a couple of emails. I certainly believe that it takes a period of time to get to know someone.

I have known some men, who were fairly new at internet dating, who wanted to send a woman money because they believed that they felt some genuine feeling for the woman, or felt that they wanted to help them a bit financially. These men I've known wee not after sex or a superficial encounter, but I think that they were just not experienced as to when it is wise to send a woman money. Some men feel that $20 or $100 or even $200 is not a lot of money for a Western man, and they understand that it can really help a woman who makes perhaps $100 per month.

But, yes, I agree with you that I don't believe it is wise to send money to someone unless you feel that you know this person well and that you feel good that both of you are very serious about the relationship.

I believe that it is helpful and beneficial to share and exchange these types of ideas and questions in a forum like this...

haha

The 'member' line really got me laughing. Not for the translation and use of the word 'member' but for what it says and how ridiculous it sounds. I'm sure a woman didn't write that and wouldn't think that way.

Don't send any woman money ever who is not your wife, daughter, sister, mother, or grandmother, or aunt, anywhere at any time for anything, period. And if she ever asks for money give her a quick 'heave ho'. Don't worry, if you marry her, she'll have access to all your money soon enough. And be suspicious of male 'friends' who ask you for money as well. Do you really want to spend the time to track them down every few days to ask them to pay you back?

The problem is that Western men are enabling these women over there and giving in to their requests for money and sending it to them. Where one would never consider sending an American woman money over the internet, it is done often for Russian women. Many things come into play: the desperation and good nature of American men toward women in general, the impovershed economy of Russia, and the overall attitude of Russians toward Americans. I believe many of them see us as gullible and see themselves as particularly clever and as mentioned in other thread: the attribute of trickery and being clever is encouraged in Russia.

From what I've found, Americans are seen by foreigners as being happy go lucky types who are easily tricked due to our good will and trusting nature. We are always willing to help people out and feel sympathetic toward foreigners in general. Some take advantage of this and do nickle and dime little scams on us. Everything from simply overcharging us for meals or services to asking for $40 to help pay for their internet access in order to write to us.

They also know that Americans draw a very firm line in most things and will strike back very firmly when that line is crossed. The stories I hear of men who get burned for thousands of dollars are evidence of that. The State Department gets involved, Interpol, etc and the Russian government does respond when pressured by the right people. My local Congressman here told me of a story where a local guy got burned for $10K by one of these Russian beauties (who turned out to a be man) and was royally pissed enough to come to his office every few days demanding that he put pressure on the Russians to get his money back and arrest him. Eventually, the Congressman wrote to the right people and the police there did arrest and charge the guy.

I think that's why you see more nickle and dime scams going on. It takes advantage of American's general good will and willingness to help but not enough to piss them off enough to strike back when it's found out to be a scam.

Rob

The person that sends these letters to western guys is just playing the numbers game.

They figure if they write to enough guys they will find the odd sucker who will send the money.

Its interesting if you spend enough time reading different forums, how many men actually think they can 'bring a woman over to check her out' based on the fact that they have busy lives etc.

My personal opinion is that if somebody is so busy that they don't have the time or inclination to visit FSU then they should date locally or stay single, but thats just me.

But back to the original point, it must be good business because plenty of people are still involved in the scam business, the great thing for the scammers is that so many people are so embarassed after, that they don't want to admit or talk about it, so there are generally a steady flow of new customers coming along.

Skooter, bravo...

you are absolutely right. If a guy is too busy to travel, he should stay single or date locally. That's it. IMHO any Russian or Ukrainian girl would prefer to have the first meeting in her own country. And those guys who send money to their girls to bring them over to the US... What are they thinking? If a girl cannot afford to pay her trip, that means by flying her over they actually make her totally depenant. And if she doesn't like you? What happens then? I mean if those guys still choose to send money, why are they blaming the girls? Nobody is forcing them to do so.... Then why are they complaining?

Again as Wave and Rattle pointed out, it is another matter when you send your gf some money for internet fees, telephone calls... Wave wanted to talk to his gf on the phone so he sent her money. It just shows that he cares. Again, if any of you think that you should not support your gf, then find those girls who can pay their phone bills, buy computers, pay internet fees, etc... and maybe support you instead... period.

I know lots of guys who are just scammers hunters. They put girls on blacklists for nothing... They provoke them to write certain e.mails by proposing some financial help.... Have you heard about that? Do you know that it is becoming a national sport in the US?

Again, if I could not afford a trip to the US, and my guy were telling me that he wanted to fly me over, I would have stopped any relationship with him at once. Because I don't want to be in a situation when I am totally dependant on him, I don't want to be obliged to do something I don't want to do.... And I would consider that as a personal offence..... again it is my own opinion. I am not speaking for all russian or ukrainian women here...

Posted by: parasionok

James,

this is personally for you...I appreciate your patriotism. You are truly a very good American, really.... But i have a question for you: if you americans are so good hearted, generous, democratic, clever, firm individuals who are being scammed by us greedy vicious Russians... then what in the world are you doing here? Bringing all those dirty cheaters to justice hence serving your country and freeing the world from the evil Russian women? Your ideas about Russia and its impoverished economy are really grand. My congratulations! You are showing the world the truth about all of us. Thank you, comrade!

Heil!

I absolutely agree with you. And I also think it is quite a good income for some people. Nevertheless we are talking amoung grown ups right? So my opinion is. Just be sure what you are into and that you are able to handle it, if someone get burned, thats life and happens anywhere.

james

I really dont get your point here? Is someone forcing you or any american to date russian girls, send them money etc. Why don´t you avoid it if you really think all women who are not your realtives will trick you badly and stay with your mom and sister?
And get a rich american wife who doesn´t need any support!

Look, every day i get an email of some african attorney who tells me he has about 150 million in gold for me waiting, i just have to pay some 5000 ˆ to get it.

Don´t you think that anyone who really pays this money deserves to loose it? I do actually! If you are stupid enough to leave any common ground and jump if someone tells you you are suddenly able to fly you hit the ground hard. I mean everybody who cant handle it should simply stay away. Then you won´t need any congressman to protect you ...

And to my opinion if you date a girl that make 150 $ a month and you do not support her after a while, (with your 20 bucks that you usually give as a tip to a waiter in a restaurant!) then I think you overestimate your generous attitude you are claiming here to the fullest. Guys we talk about 20! bucks! Even IF she turns out to be a scammer what are 20 bucks compared to the fact that you treat a "real" girl like **** if you don´t!

Interesting letter. Looks almost like a machine translation from Russian or else two people working together, one tranlating word for word with a dictionary in all caps, and the second person reading through it and adding in articles and prepositions where they belong to make it halfway legible.

The Russian word for penis is chlen. This is also the Russian word for member. The other Russian word for this organ is much ruder than the rude English words referring to roosters and Richard's nickname.

I wonder how long it will be before these start appearing in my mailbox along with the letters from Nigeria. Two weeks ago I got a very realistic sounding one from Mikhail Khodorkovskiy's personal assistant and everything in it was verifiable and factual. Except the PA, of course. Generally when this style of letter is transposed to a different country it means that the scammers in that country have discovered how to run the scam. So we may be in for a run of messages from Fat Yuri and Boris.

It strikes me that a better way of alerting people to these types of scams would be to link them with the Nigerian 419 scams. In other words, don't build up blacklists of individuals who probably don't even exist. Instead publicise the letters, the stories used in the letters, the writing styles, etc. Blacklist sites are not working, they give people false hope because it doesn't mean anything if someone is not listed on a blacklist site. And they often unfairly stigmatise girls who have either done nothing wrong or who at least were only half to blame for the problem.

Hi again Guys & Girls , Thank you for all your responses to my original letter . I probably need to clear things up a little on the letters . First of all , not all letters were in capital letters , Only maybe 3 out of around 8 and one was half in capital letters . the one that was half in capital letters went to lower case letters when she asked for the money . I asked if i could go visit & never got a reply , I also asked for her last name , phone number , or a copy of her passport & this was not replied to either . I have worked in FSR for around 18months & know a little of the language & the culture . I'm not sure if the visa details are the same in Australia as they are in America . So I would like to hear if anyone knows a little more on this subject .
Well thanks again , and hope to hear from you soon .
Jim .
