When my now wife arrived going on 4 years ago she was looking at some russian web sites and we began having computer problems. I advised her to stay away from these sites after I had the computer fixed. Her family has been here the last month and the problems have surfaced again. Her brother is 15 and says that he went to some joke sites but I suspect some porn sites as well. My norton system works isn't finding any viruses but there are definate problems even getting on the internet. Has anyone else experienced these problems with russian sites causing problems with their computers? I'm at the point of dumping everything again and reloading.

Hi Sidney,

You need to download and run some free utilities like spybot search and destroy and adaware. You can find them if you do a search using google.

If you visit the pcmag.com website they have a good article on securing your computer.

Also keep your windows operating system (I'm assuming that this is what you are using) updated.

Microsoft recently released a fix for a vulnerability in Internet explorer, that is probably the source of your problems.

The simple explanation is that when you visit some websites, they download stuff onto your computer, the utilities that I mentioned earlier will allow you to remove these.

P.M. me if you continue having problems.

You could also try to load a different browser like Opera which is less likely to be attacked by spybots etc

you can get the programs mention from this site. Most are free
If not free they have a trail period.

If you do go to search for ad-aware...make sure you add the "-" hyphen...there is a program called "adaware" that will install spyware and such.

I would also suggest you go and get the google toolbar, as it has a built in pop up stopper that works great for IE. If you really want to stop the pop ups and such...get mozilla...or firebird...really great browsers.

As always keep your antivirus software up to date and it doesn't hurt to hit the spyware front with two programs...such as spybot and ad-aware.

Hope it helps...

Thanks for the help. Everything seems to be back to near normal.
