I think it would be a good idea to add the option 'New posts' at the top of the forum, this way users are 1 click away from seeing all new posts since their last visit.

Actually, when you go to the main index page of the forum, if you click on "View New Posts" (which is found on the top right hand corner of the index page, then this will show you all of the new posts since your last visit.

So, the feature is there

(perhaps it is a little hard to see).
