I just got engaged in Russia. I feel like I just won the powerball lottery....... anyhow........Can anyone give me some idea of what a russian lady of 34 will be expecting as far as a ring or rings? I thought I saw somewhere that they do not expect engagement rings. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rick

In Belarus, engagement rings are no big deal. Actually they don't really have that tradition there. But I did get Nadya one so she could experience the American tradition of engagement.

Kevin,Kevin,Kevin,

You are supposed to pay 2 and a half months salary for an engagement ring. Just watch the diamond company commercials on TV. They will tell you this. J/K

In a "Wave of Love" I asked Irina to marry me the night before she returned home to Russia after a holiday here in Ireland.
It was totally unplanned I just got down on one knee and told her how I felt from the heart.

=o)

In Ireland a Claddagh Ring is a traditonal ring of love.
on it is a heart with a crown held by two hands
For love, we wear the heart. In friendship, we wear the hands. And, in loyalty and lasting fidelity: we wear the crown.

Worn on the right hand, with crown and heart facing out, the ring tells that the wearer's heart is yet to be won.
While under love's spell it is worn with heart and crown facing inwards.
Wearing the ring on the left hand, with the crown and heart facing inwards, signifies that your love has been requited

For her Christmas/new year present I bought her one made with a small diamond in the heart, Im glad i bought her this as I was able to transfer it from one hand to the other.

After I told her I wished I had prepared this proposal better by having a ring and some flowers for her and she replied " Nooooo Chris, it was the most romantic thing ever, I wish I could have wrote down the beautiful words that you spoke to me"

make your own conclusion but IMO its nice to give a ring but whats more important is to give your heart.

Good choice Lep!!!
By the way guys, the ring I bought for Nadya was not cheap. It was one of the more expensive ones in the shop in fact!!
I was going to buy one here and take it with me, but I did not want to jinx everything, so I waited. This way she got to pick out the ring she wanted. We bought it in Minsk since there is a much larger selection there than there would be in Mogilev!
I just stated that in Belarus, there is not a tradition of the Engagement ring. It is not understood there. If a woman is wearing an engagement ring there it would not perceived as such by the locals.
