Dear Russian Meeting Place friends...

I just purchased 2 new website software programs that I think will provide us with more of what we need on the Russian Meeting Place.

(These programs should be installed and fully operational in a few days to one week, and will be free to use, of course).

The two new programs are:

1) Photo Gallery software. With this software, we are going to add a Russian Photo gallery (perhaps the new section will be called something like "The Russian Photo Place") that will feature user-posted photos of Russia and anything relating to Russia like photos of Russian cities and Russian people and landscapes. In this new section, you will be able to add photos as well as browse other member's photos. The program has a nice appealing look where you can browse by thumbnails, and then click on the thumbnails to reveal the full size photo as well as a description. you can also post responses to each photo (like the discussion threads in the forum). What is interesting about the main page of the photo gallery software is that the front index page will present thumbnails of the 10 newest photos submitted, thumbnails of the the 10 most popular photos, as well as 10 random photos. I may also create an informal free personals in the "Russian Photo Place" so that users can post their photos and profiles, and registered users can search by thumbnail photos and then read descriptions of the members after clicking on their thumbnail.

2) The second program that I purchased is a User Review software, where users can read and post user reviews of a variety of Russian services, businesses, and products, and share their experiences with these products and services with other members. This would be a good way for people to share their experiences with and rate different Russian products and services like phone cards, hotels and hostels in Russia, travel agencies, restaurants, bookstores, Russian films, Russian music, translation services, hand-held Russian translators, Russian language computer software, and anything else that we can think of. This section may be called "Russian Service Reviews" or "Russian Service User Reviews", or something similar... (We will have our own unique look, of course).

I think that both of these soon-to-be added areas to the website will present us with tools and services that are not currently being offered on the web, and it will make the Russian Meeting Place a website where we can have a more complete experience of Russia and Russian culture on the internet.

I am excited about the Russian User Reviews because people can see ratings and reviews of Russian items that are more objective and based on our peers experiences with these services (rather than what advertisers and the businesses themselves want to present to you)...

The Russian Photo Place will offer us a more visual way to view and submit our photos, especially through the random and most popular photo features on the main page of the Photo software.
