Questions B1 B2 VISA from Belarus to USA

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a lady in Belarus that wants to visit me first here in the USA. I am prepared to visit her but she wants to come here first. Is it possible? Can it be done? If so what can we do to ensure she gets the VISA approved. I have read what is said on the US Embassy's web site and it does not look very hopeful. They want compelling evidence she will return and that is up to their interpretation. So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions I will very much appreciate it.

Is is possible for her to get a VISA lets say to Cyprus or Malta and then get a VISA approved from there to come to the USA? I would think not but I will ask anyway. I imagine if this were easy every body would be doing this.

If I go there first and marry her there, what is reasonable time to expect to get her approved for a VISA to come to the USA?

Any comments or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

sincerely,

Steve

Pack your bags, you're going to Belarus! The chances of her getting a US tourist visa are slim to none.

She could probably get a visa to Cyprus/Malta, but that won't improve her chances of getting a US visa by much. Although if she does have an international travel history (e.g. a few previous trips to Europe), that will increase her chances of later getting a US visa.

Generally they interpret this as 1. A high income, 2. Ownership of real estate, substantial business investments, 3. A spouse or child who will remain in Belarus during her travel, 4. A travel history proving that she has abided by the terms of previous visas (e.g. to Europe).

As for specific information about Belarus, there are several people here who can fill you in. Both Khashyar and Eryk come to mind. Maybe one of them will answer you more in depth.

Thank you Jill, I sincerely appreciate your reply. I understand and I will
need to help Irena understand to. I have read that a fiancee VISA will take
at least a year to get approved after I can prove I have visited her. So my
next question is that if I visit her and we were to get married while I was
there, would that speed up the VISA approval process or would it still take
a year to get a VISA approved for her to come here. Is there any way to get
her here sooner than a year? Since she is graduating from college I was
thinking maybe she could come here on a VISA that would allow her to go to
school to get a higher degree here but I would imagine that would also
require her to prove she could afford that by herself without my support.

Thanks again,

Steve

Pin Boy,
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your help and comments. I feel very comfortable with Irena and my communication and I have no reason to not trust her. I have a question though. Do you know what the average cost per month for a flat in Belarus would be. An estimate would be fine. Also do you or anyone know what is a reasonable estimate of time for a person to get a VISA and approval to come to the USA if you marry the person in their country in Belarus?

Thanks again

Steve

$200 per month for a medium term (3+ month) rental in Minsk so long as your fiance organises it. If the term is shorter or they realise that there is a a foreigner paying then double that would be a fair guess. I am in Minsk right now and the first figure is what we are paying for a 2 room apt. in a cable modem area (installed today ) ...which attracts a premium.

I can't add anything helpful regarding USA visas since I am British but I agree with the other posters that the chances of a 'tourist' visa are vanishingly small in most cases.

I appreciate the info. Does the Belarusians pay that each month on average or is that an average cost for an american to pay. Also do Belarusians pay for several months at a time or can they pay month to month for a flat?

sincerley,

Steve

That is what an average Belarusian would pay if they rented an apartment 'out of the blue' in the same way you and I might do. If you are wondering how that makes sense given that many people earn only $100 a month then the answer is that many people (and most families, if you look more broadly) were effectively given an apartment for free since the mass privatisation programme of state housing coincided with the ruble crash of the late 90's. The average Belarusian couple therefore live with their respective parents until their late 20's.

As for the payment intervals, generally it is 'monthly' (and frequently somewhat later than that ).

If you go to Belarus and marry there, you can then direct file with the consular in Warsaw. I think the whole process can be done in 2 months, if you're efficient.

You basically by pass the whole NOA1 and NOA2 process over here which is basically where all the waiting comes from.

Welcome to the forum Nazz!
I think if you post this question down in the British area some of the guys from there can help and you probably will find the answers already there.
Good luck!
