I am just wondering if you people ever frequent casinos when your in Russia.I dont know if the Ukraine has them. There all over the place in Moscow.
Everybody talks about things they have done but never about the casinos.
I just came from Reno and won a little bit of change and It reminded me of my time in Moscow in November.
I did pretty well in Moscow. I won about 250 dollars US. Pretty much on these roulette machines that are everywhere.
I found them very entertaining when I had to kill some time waiting for my girl to get off work.

I went to some casinos in St petersburg and in Yaroslavl. The St Pete's ones are very upmarket, and the person I went in with had to be a member. Very interesting and classy places inside, but the paintwork and building is very run-down on the outside. I don't know if there is a reason for that.

Mria ,
Your absolutely right that a lot of them look run down on the outside but nice on the inside.
I have noticed this also about many resturants in Moscow.
You go down thru some little basement door and it opens up into a nice cafe or resturant but without someone who can read russian with me I would never go thru these doors , thinking it might lead to someones basement or something.

Yes, there were many in Omsk.

used to be the assistant manager of one of the casinos before it closed down.

It was one of the best jobs she had and paid her many many times what the average person there makes.

It allowed her to travel to France, Italy, South Africa, Austria, Germany, etc... so I guess it paid very well and casinos are popular there.

I know-definitely a throwback from communism. I'm always suprised when I go to the main train stations, even in Moscow, and all the shops, cafes, and even the toilets use the same style of sign. Its not to capture your attention, its just to state a fact- Bakers, Cafe, Toilets, Opticians, Tickets. All in practically the same writing.
It's just different, and in a sense its right. We are so used to the hard sell in the west. In most places in Russia, you go to a bakers because you'd like some bread or cakes-not because some advertising gimmick has caught your attention and lured you in.
And its true, even speaking Russian, I have some trouble finding places such as internet cafes, or not known what the shop sold untill after I'd walked right in and had a look around.
But I have to say 1 thing that I've noticed about Russia, whilst their customer service improves all the time, ours is becoming much worse, and I think Eryk will agree. My American and Japanese friends just laugh at our customer service here in the UK and treat it like a joke (Banks, trains, shops etc). I swear to god, Russia is overtaking us-fast.

Yes, it is a throwback from communism since most of the buildings date from that time. There is no need to display your range of goods if everyone already knows what you have because everywhere stocks the same range of products. Also, with Minsk/Moscow winters you don't really want huge expanses of glass leaking heat into the streets.

They are becoming a lot more efficient, yes. They still don't smile much etc., but personally I detest all that fake "Have a nice day!" McService anyway. As for here in the UK, if there is a trend then I agree that it is 'downwards' ...seems to me it has always been pretty bad here though

There's one on Prospekt Mir near the metro station in Moscow that looks like it could be on the Vegas strip. The lights really make it stand out from everything else around it. I thought I had a picture somewhere. I'll keep looking....

heh , heres a picture of one casino I went to on Tverskaya.
This casino I could not win for nothing so I did not stay long.
The best one I played at was in the side entrance to the underground mall by the Kremlin if you know which one I speak about.

I Kiev , the capital of Ukraine there are many casino's and when foreigners arrive in Ukraine they must complete a clearance document - on the back of the document is an advert for a casino - so as you can see , in Ukraine the govt want your money
and want it fast !!

Hey Mark,

Luckily, the casino near the underground mall he speaks of near the Kremlin also has a great Internet cafe very close by on the bottom floor. That way you can quickly come over and start a thread titled: "Don't let Moscow casinos take all your spending money".

I know many casinos in Vegas pay out around 95%. I would be very interested to see the percentage that Russian casinos pay out. I haven't seen a lot of happy people taking out handfulls of rubles.

May luck be a lady while you are there!!!

First time I went to Moscow in 2002, my 1st and now ex-Russian GF took me to some Nightclub casinos in New Arbat St.

On my 2nd trip there in 2003 to meet my current GF, I noticed some slot machines at the lobby of the Hotel Rossiya.

They are indeed all over Moscow, there are actually around 90/100, the bigger ones have shows, nightclubs and restaurants.

I myself work as a Casino Manager in Moscow.

The Casino by the side of Manezhniy Mall used to be called Cherry's although that was a while back.

The photo is of Shangri-La and that place is one of the better Casino's in Moscow although it will cost you $200 to get in.

Most of the big Casino's charge you $50-$200 for entrance nowadays, they give you this amount in Lucky chips.

Castlestormer no Casino on earth has an monthly/annual PC of 95% payout if they did they wouldn't be open for very long.

Need to know anything else about Casino's i'm ya man
