Helllo Khashyar,

Do you have an idea when you will be adding the scam discussion to the section written by Lena and her friends? I am very interested in that since I have been taken for a ride since last June when I first visited Odessa.

Thanks Lena and Khashyar for contributing the valuable information. A good bit of it I learned after the fact, but fool me once....

My situation was a little different because I had been to this woman's home on three different trips to Ukraine. I'm still not sure if I was being scammed or the woman was just greedy and unrealistic. It seemed like she believed that whenever she opened her mouth I was supposed to open my wallet. That sounds a little crass but I really don't feel like explaining it all now. Maybe I will one rainy day this summer when I'm off from teaching school for summer vacation.

I met this woman at a social and did befriend the interpreter who was laso a school teacher and spend much time in her company along with the girl I met at the social. The interpreter's opinion after this all shook out was that my GF was a bit strange, someone she would not be friends with. She thought my GF was self centered and was not willing to try to see things from any else's point of view. She was an only child and mother to an only child so there's the spoiled factor. Also, my GF was close to her parents who lived in the same apt building a few floors up and both the interpreter and I felt my GF manipulated her mother often to doing many things for my GF. Basically a narcissistic woman who may or may not have been taking me for a ride but would not have been happy anyway no matter how much I did for her and her child.

I don't think I will pursue a relationship with a woman from the FSU (just too costly right now - spent a good chunk on three trips and purchased a house and had to replace a car recently), but I do not regret any of it. Got to see a part of the world and experience a culture most Westerners never will. Picked up some Russian language whcih helps with my job as an ESL teacher. Recently my cousin adopted two boys from Russian, 7 and 8 years old and they are not only my students, but part of my extended family as well. They are amazed that I can speak a bit of Russian to them and are such beautiful children. That's the part that hurts when I think that could be my former GF's 8 year old daughter I could be teaching as well.

I guess I told more of the story than I intended but will probably fill in the details regarding my former GF's action at a later dat. Good luck to all and I'll still be on the RMP Forum.
