Tanya did her own translation of the Ak book when she was learning to drive. It actually served a dual purpose as it also helped her learn english. Eng dictionary and a quiet area. You'll need to help explain alot but it will be better in the long run.

edit;
The test is in english here so she really needs to have a good basis of english just for that. They did allow an interpeter BUT that is only for a word for word translation not explaining the question. I got scolded for explaining and almost kicked out!
She can get in touch with Tanya on skype or email if it'd help any. She's willing to help your lady. PM me for contact info.

I think Mike's suggestion about her taking the time to translate herself would be the most prudent. It would greatly aid her English comprehension skills. I would suggest she makes a stab at translating it and you can help explain any words or phrases that she finds difficult.

If she doesn't want to bother then we could send Tanya's translated Ak book. It'll be the same basic manual but skip the part about tire chains and driving in blizzards.. (j/k)

When my wife was learning to drive I would explain the book sentence at a time. She did her chicken scratching in russian to remind herself. I only did this for about 45 minutes a night because it does drain you. Be patient, take it slow and enjoy this experience.
I also had her start parallel parking with the 4 wheeler for a feel for what to do. Before the test we went to the test area on sundays to practice.

I am sure it is not the first time, and won't be the last time either.
