Volgograd rocks !

I see this is going to be an uphill battle to promote this city as a great place to find a lady to fall in love with.
Okay, let's face it, this whole site exists because a lot of people are looking for someone to fall in love with or have already done so .
Me ? I found me a wonderful lady in Volgograd, let me first say, this was not my origonal intention and neither did I ever expect to visit Volgograd twice in one year. Especially did I never intend to fly Russian T134 Tupoleve ?
Three engined, bomber nosed, commercial aircraft of distinctly unnerving condition compared to American or British aircraft . I am glad though, that I did all the things I have done recently in visiting a city of many faces and so much recent history.
I would not think of missing all the different people I met there or anywhere else I travelled in Russia.
I feel though, I was extreemly fortunate all the way, in the last 16 months. My origonal intent did not include falling in love with Asiya.

She was distinctly instumental in that department and I can only think she really is a fairy in disguise, with pixie dust and wand !
I origonally sought to find out about Russia to see how this ..". puzzle wrapped in an
enigma surrounded by a mystery." ( Churchhill couldn't have been more accurate. ...) worked , or more accurately, functioned.
I have digressed though....
Volgograd, for those of you seaching for a bride is one of the larger cities in Russia, of nearly 1 million people and about 70 kilometers long and about 3 to 5 kilometers wide hugging the left bank of the Volga river some 600 kilometers north of Rostov-on Don and about 800 kilometers south of Moscow.
Whilst my impression of Volgograd in May was good, my later visit in November killed my memories of a pretty, warm, spring, blossoming city .....Volgograd in November is a far different place !
To be there in December through February can only be imagined.
So take a little advice, visit between May and October.
Whilst I was there I met up with a couple of ex pat Americans
some of whom where Mormon missionaries and one who was running a Romance Tour Company, and in expectations of the moderator editing this post , his name was Jack and his company is, A Love In Russia. We had a beer or two in a bar on Mira Ulitsa and we have exchanged emails serveral times . He is very knowledgable about his business and has contacts all over Russia and has a site on the web. Find it on Google and say 'Hi'.

During my stays in Volgograd I saw a lot of the city and spent a week working with Asiya at her shoe store in the south of the city.
Many of the fears held by some are real but I never was afraid for myself, even travelling to Volgograd alone in November. I speak very little in the way of understandable Russian, but was able to eat, buy a telephone card to call Asiya from Moscow and buy my air ticket at Domodedovo to Volgograd . Taxi drivers aside, I even slept overnight in Domodedovo airport on three seats in the departures hall, never was bothered by anyone and had great company of other early morning travellers doing the same.

You might try it for yourself sometime. The reception by Russian people is something you do not get in America or Britain.
I'm saving up to go again soon, as I have been told by my interviewer the CIA has lost my paperwork and my ceromony for citizenship is going to be delayed some.

If anyone is interested in more detailed stories about my visits to Volgograd, let me know, by posting your comments here too.

Thanks for the very informative post, Brandon! Do you have photos of Volgograd? I am finding that the world is such a beautiful place! Each city I've been to has its own distinctive charm. I'm sure that Volgograd does too! A photo tour would be great!

Bob

P.S. It's OK to mention a company if you've had experiences with them that you want to share. We only request that you not post hyperlinks to their website. But your post fine!
