hi everyone,

maybe someone can advise... i'm interested in buying a portable dvd player for my last 6 weeks here in kiev. can i get a transformer to use the machine in the usa? i know (think) converters are only used for small electric items like chargers or shavers.

so does anyone know if i can get a reasonably priced transformer to use the player in the states?

thanks,

pb

ps having a great time in kiev!

Glade to hear that you are having a good time in Kiev. As for the DVD player i would think you can. Maybe Citycom or Radio shack here in the states.

Go to Radio Shack. They have one look, CAT 273-1410. In addition, I suggest you purchase an European plug adapter set because the electrical outlets are recessed about 1/2 or 3/4 of inch into the wall and the prongs on the adapter will not reach the holes in the wall without one.

Do you plan to use it at home or in a vehicle? The plug-in type portable inverters are available in 1000, 1500, or 2000 watts, more than enough for a DVD player. Plugs for 120 V also available. as Disculmawsu posted

Are you there now? You did say your last 6 weeks....
I think if you look at the supplied transformer with the player you'll see that it'll be 220/50 and 110/6 already. You just need the flat twin adapter to plug into out outlets. Or you can get a different transformer with the correct plugs. No big deal either way.
Enjoy your stay!

AkMike, thanks for the tip - I just checked my portable player and the transformer will take 100-240V and 50/60Hz.

True to that Akmike, didn't think about that.
