Does anyone know where the US/UK ex pats hang out in Kiev? I am thinking of visiting and would like to hook upo with some locals that know he ropes...

There are a couple of pubs around the British Embassy that are hang-outs.' O'brians' IRRC is one of them. What "ropes" are you looking for?

In my expat days in Kiev, I usually hung out at Golden Gate or the Drum.

There is also another Irish place in Kiev, whose name escapes me.

A footnote......Donetsk was founded by a Welshman, so there is a UK connection there. The "John Hughes" hotel and pub has been there for years.
And more recently, the "Liverpool" pub/grocery/cafe/rock climbing wall is there, plus the hotel behind it, has been open since last September.

LOL, I just hope that doesn't mean that it has closed! If it still exists, it is on Prorizna, sort of behind Kazak Mamai. It can be kind of hard to find the first time because the entrance is not on the street, you have to go through an archway into the parking area of an apartment complex to find it. I do hope it is still around--I used to love that place!

Let me know if it is still there!

O'brians has changed a lot over the last few years. Service, food, downhill. It's now mostly a meeting place for a handful of Brit's teaching English who will show up four nights per week on average.

Fairly familiar with Kazak Mamai area, Casino Split, back door short-cut to Independence Square and all, have never heard of the drum.

I see ex-pat's at Chateau, Shooters and of course, Fridays.

hi jill,

yes, the drum is still there i am told, but i haven't made it in there yet. it got rave reviews from some british council teachers i've befriended. maybe tonight....

Hey Pin Boy, were you able to visit the Drum? If so what did you think of it? Good place for a first date, or a fourth date?
