Story behind your screen name

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: blucatz

I have often wondered if there are story's behind everyones screen name here. What is the significance of it? Case in point, my screen name is blucatz because I own 2 blue cats (Buddy and Leah). They are Russian Blue's. I have owned a Russian Blue cat for the last 25 years. I was just wondering when you signed up for this forum, what went thru everyones head when thinking of a screen name for themselves.

I think mine is self explanetory.

Yours of course is self explanetory, but some on here are like personal plates on cars, your left scratching your head trying to figure them out.

Well, I'm a transplanted Buckeye born in '57 and the 04 part is too embarassing so...

Posted by: matt235

Well, the matt portion is pretty straight forward...it's my name. The 235 does have a significant importance to me. It seems that 235 has been a key element of my development and career since I was about 10 (not sure exactly when). Anyway, the 235 comes from Uranium-235 (U235), an isotope of Uranium. U235 is the most used fissile material in use in nuclear reactors in not only the US, but pretty much around the world.

When I was 10 my father first indoctrinated me into the nuclear world when he (and nearly the rest of my family) were all associated with the development and construction of two of the nuclear units in Texas. When I was 20 I joined the US Navy as a nuclear technician. It was unclear exactly what I would do when I joined, however, I eventually became a reactor operator and spent 4 years on a submarine as a reactor operator. Following the Navy, I began working at that same nuclear facility that my father developed/constructed when I was 10.

I no longer work at the facility (been gone for about 10 years now), but it is something that will always be in my blood and my mind. Currently, I am working on finishing my Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering. Not a big call for that degree, but it is something that I know and I am good at. Thus I took the 235 from Uranium-235 as I do in many other forums, emails, etc throughout this electronic media we call the internet!

There, clear as mud.

I think mine is self explanatory, I am a Giant and I am Gentle.
I also decided that my usual on-line non de plume would probably put the women off.

Captain Cretin.

My name is part from the town where I currently live, Swindon and part from a late night with some drunken mates 7 or 8 years ago, trying to think of a user name for an AOL free trial while some people where playing Doom.

Posted by: disculmawsu

As many readers know my screen name comes from my former place of employment. "dis" from Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, "culma" from the College of Urban, Labor and Metropolitian Affairs and the university "Wayne State University".

This was done before! http://www.russianmeetingplace.com/...ght=screen+name

I have since learned some were correct about my name! My wife had me believing it means relax. LOL! It is actually a polite way of telling someone to SHUT UP! Oh well! I've had it too long to change now!

I often find myself situated right between those who cause harm by impeding progress, and those who are amazing caregivers.

PS: This song "Goliboi Vagon" is a must learn if you ever deal with Russian children. They still sing it in orphanages and schools in Russia. Learn it and you will have an instant camraderie with them.

Oddly enough, I had the honor of doing the funeral of my Russian professor last year. The place was full of Russians who were very old. We ended the service with this song. I'm sure that her best days are still ahead for her as she rode the blue wagon off into the sunset.

The symbol stands for freedom. Guardians of the Free World perhaps....

Those in the know get the meaning

Hmm that explains the name, now what's the story with the freaky looking Avatar?

I think some of the girls might be a little put off....

Posted by: Spakoyna

Perhaps he was a fan of the TV series Beauty and the Beast! He's infering He's the Beast and is looking for his Beauty!

Fairly self explanetory, except shouldn't it be "GoingToMoldova".

As for my name, I usually use eddie because that is my name. I forget if I needed a longer name or there was another eddie on forum, but to explain why I added 465, well I was born in April of 1965. I'm sure you can figure it out from there .

Mine means "little snake" in Russian. Decided to take it because it's sweet, not frightening as a "snake" - "zmeya", and may be a bit smart though little
My another nick that i used a lot is Smeyanka, the last part yanka points at my name (Yana, short and informal Yanka), and in general origins from the verb "smeyat'sya" - to laugh

Interesting name - I don't know if "snakes" would be seen as sweet though?

Posted by: Leprechaun

Nice Idea for a post Blucatz, I may be wrong but I dont remember anyone asking this before.

Snakes - no, but little snakes - can be if like that

Posted by: Chillidog

now that I changed my Avatar, my name should be more apparent. It is the name of my dog "Chilli" because of my poor spelling (my English major younger sister pointed out this error to me) her name was meant to be "Chili Dog" like what we eat.

Posted by: azamuner

My name is just something I made up and it doesn't actually mean anything....at least that I know of.

Posted by: Big wheel

My name is as simple as a kids toy. it was one of my favorite toys growing up

Posted by: matt235

Big wheel,

Hey, did you pimp out your big wheel with the stereo system we see on your avatar?

later,
