Definition of "Smoking"

All right, after what I am learning about drinking in the FSU, I have to ask, what is the definition of "Smoking".

The drinking thing is easier for me to deal with (if a lady drinks a little here and there), but a woman that smokes any at all is going to be a huge issue with me. The thought of kissing an ashtray is not what I want to sign up for.

Thanks,

I don't think it will be a problem for you Matt, I seen very, very few women in Moscow smoke. Unlike here in the states, the women smokers in the FSU are in the extreme minority, most women do not smoke, but do not mind if the man smokes.

Thanks, that adds to my overall comfort factor with RW's. If people want to smoke that is fine by me, I just don't want to be kissing one of them!!

Beware, as many girls do smoke but as the agency warns them it is a setback, they state they don’t in their profile hoping they can ‘give up’ any time. Of course they can’t and it’s an illusion. So if it is a serious issue for you, it is best to stress it in your introductory letter. But I am not sure, it may be the wrong advice. Just keep in mind that ‘non-smoking’ ladies can actually smoke, even if seldom and socially. I have seen that.

The kiss test will definately tell me, however, I can usually detect it at about 3 feet away. Last night I was at a social event with some good friends. One of them was a Romanian lady that I had seen a few times, even though we did not kiss, I could smell her smoker's breath in our conversations.

If what you say is true Stirlitz, I will be sure to stress the non smoking thing in my correspondence. If the agencies are telling the ladies to "lie" in the profiles, I understand the logic that both the ladies and the agencies are using. I don't agree, but there is a positive side to this. If this is the case and the lady does as the agency suggest, but then comes forward and admits to me that she is a social smoker (let's not go into that just yet) in her letters, this tells me that she is honest enough to tell me the truth. Just another one of those items that must be used to build that chemistry that we will be looking for. I'll just have to deal with the social smoker label and determine the extent of it as an issue.

Thanks guys!

Please understand that it is true for some ladies and not true for others. I am not sure which though, and the proportion. You have to tell it every time.

I have been living in Moscow on and off for about 5 years. I don't agree with the smoking bit. I would say probably 45% of Russian women smoke. And 95% drink even if they say they don't. parties and holidays a non drinking Russian woman usually drinks. But they don't consider that drinking. just my experience

Igor is correct.

I have been in the company of Russian women, smoking a cigarette, who while doing so have earnestly explained that they do not really smoke.

The reality is that many women will smoke, although in my experience it seems to be less black and white than in the West. Many women smoke very lightly and if a man seems particularly against it, she will claim not to smoke and will probably just give it up quietly, you may never know.

Online profiles are often a work of fiction. Agencies will often edit a "yes" reply to a "no" reply on the smoking question. Many similarly edit "up to 40 years old" to read "up to 55" too.

I found this exact problem. After a couple of letters asking I finally got an answer that she only very rarely smokes, and only when at a nightclub. I went to meet the girl and - big surprise here- she was a daily smoker.
