Absolutetly! That's exacly why I said PARTNER instead of wife or hubby. Please vote if you haven't.

Wow 10 years is great. I think Jill is somewhere around that number also.

Tim,

since you are trying to get a gauge on how successful International marriages are (from reading your other thread). My suggestion would be to also start a poll like:

"Who has either been married or engaged to a foriegn partner, are you still with this partner?"

Answers:

Yes
No

just a suggestion and may give us all a better idea of what the success rate is, though I think the demographics maybe sceuwed a bit, in my opinion most on forums like RMP would be success or might have had a failure but have not given up on this desire, and those who failed and have given up probably would not be active in a forum of this nature.

So it might not be reflective of the industry as a whole but might still be interesting

Bob

Good idea Bob, but I kinda want to be skewed toward the successes right now. She needs to hear about them the most what with her own misfortune and a few of her friends here aren't exactly thrilled with their AM's so I need a little good news for her.

But hey, I'm still her man and my butt doesn't look big in anything, just ask her sometime, she'll tell ya, honest, I wouldn't lie about something so serious.

what are the reasons her FSU friends are NOT happy with the AM they are with?

Posted by: Buckeye5704

I think the big complaint is that their men stop trying to learn Russian, and apparently these ladies are accustomed to a lot more um, intimacy than they're getting now. That one may be the actual #1. One guy slept with his bride to be a few times in Russia then when she got here it dried right up to nothing. My sweetie wasn't entirely happy in that dept either (not now though).

Thankfully RMP is very good about getting the word out about what is expected of us men when we bring them here.

I've recommened RMP to a guy I know here and one of Irina's best friends. I hooe she joins as she will have lots to contribute and she won't pull a punch for anybody.

are they Eunichs????

You need to hit these guys upside their head with a 2x4. What red blooded male does not want sex with thier attractive wife?

There has got to be more to the story, probably much I fear you/we will never learn.

You're probably right Bob. I'd like to use a 6x6 myself and maybe that'll wake somebody up. But I gotta say that I'm sooo happy mine got ignored. I can't imagine not wanting her and we know some pretty nasty stuff about each other now.

I think that perhaps many of these guys went for far too young a bride and just couldn't handle the work load. It was a concern of mine when I preparing to go to Zap last month. I'm thrilled out of my skimpies that Irina's only 6 years behind me instead of 15 like Helen. Marrying young and beautiful has it's own set of problems sometimes.

Don't let Irina read this, she just might get the wrong impression and use that 6x6 on you!!!!

She'ld have to hire someone to use the 6x6. She's way to much of a princess for that sort of thing.

But seriously, she asks me all the time why did I choose her instead the young and beautiful and I keep telling her it's because she not so young, but still very beautiful. Then when she slips into the beautiful is for models act I start telling her that really, she's just ok, neplocha, Maybe a little above average, I can stand too look at her for a few minutes or so... Always cracks her up. Even so, she hears the words очен красивая constantly through our day. I think I may be wearing her down, maybe.

All I know is that everytime I see her I'm doing this.

You know, a baseball bat is allot easier to hold onto while swinging than a 2x4 or a 6x6...LOL, plus, no splinters.

SHH! Don't give her any ideas!

B, it's almost 2 years now. It has been a good marriage. We have had our misunderstandings, but have eaten a lot of crow. The best thing I did at the start is set our fun nights. It has worked well and there has been no misunderstandings there.

Posted by: Buckeye5704

Misunderstandings come with the territory me thinks. Different languages and cultures are a breeding ground for them. Endless patience from both will see us through though.

Can't wait to get to Russia and see the family then come home and start our life together. Fun nights will be a regular part too. She hates to just sit at home all the time.

I'ld love to see some more votes come in so if you haven't please feel free.

You know I would love to vote to help you guys out on this subject, but it would just be a lie--I'm still searching. I just enjoy feeding off all of this information you guys keep putting out there.

Later,

p.s. those little baseball bats they give out at the games really come in handy for...oops, sorry.

I still have my old night stick, er, baton, from when I was in the Army MPs (Military Police for you Brits). I told her I was going to use it to force her to steer hand over hand during driving practice (by holding it under her hands so she has to go over the top). So far she hasn't thought to use it on me...yet. GULP! I think I'll just leave it behind the seat in the truck.

Posted by: dagpop

Irina, here is where to find B's baton.

Posted by: Buckeye5704

Close, but its behind her seat! Oh crap! Now she knows! I'm gonna hafta clean out the rig tomorrow now.

Was it more difficult to get a residence permit there if you are not married?

No, in the Netherlands it doesn't matter if a couple is married or not - a woman gets all necesary documents - residence permit, work authorization and later citizenship - if staying with a Dutch partner. The only difference is when getting citizenship if a woman is not married she will have to reject her own citizenship (here i'm talking about Russian citizenship, don't know about others), and if she's married or in a registered partnership (signed a contract at the notary) she can have both citizenships.

Wow! How enlightened!

When you first went to Holland was it on a Visitors Visa? I wonder if it is easier in Europe than North America?

We had our wedding in November 2006

I went on MVV visa - it's not tourist visa but special visa for spauses of Dutch citizens allowing them to come and stay in Holland.

I think in sence of coming to Holland and being able to stay in the relationships without final term to get married - it's easier here.
But now before coming a spause of a Dutch sitizen should pass the exam of knowing Dutch language and Dutch culture. The level of knowledge is quite low but still - not every city in Russia has teachers of (so specific) Dutch language, so in this sence i think it's more difficult than in North America.

Ten wonderful days of marriage for me!

Looks like you're gonna have to wait 355 days to be able to vote.

I hope the next 355 days are as good as the first 10! Driving lessons will be starting soon, this could test our patirnts. Luckily it is law that a "trained professional" must teach someone to drive in my state. I'll just show her the basics and then let her learn with the "professional".

I'm glad to hear that you're getting off to a good start. I wish you all happiness for your future together.
