New Low Cost Flights from Kiev to Odessa - Ukraine!

Wizz Air, the Hungarian low-cost carrier, has established a new base in Ukraine, at Kievâ??s Boryspil Airport. As such, Wizz Air is opening a new chapter in Ukraineâ??s aviation history, by becoming the first discount carrier to operate in this former Soviet republic. Wizz Air will start off by offering domestic service only, rather than international routes. The first destinations to be served include Odessa, Lviv, Simferopol, Kharkov, as well as Zaporozhye. Some of these routes will specifically serve to transport Ukrainians to popular domestic tourist resorts. All flights will commence on July 11, 2008 and, as is customary for Wizz Air, the carrier will focus on heavily discounted fares, in exchange for basic, no-frills service. The Kiev to Odessa route will be served by seven flights per week, while those flying from Kiev to Simferopol will be able to select from 10 weekly departures from the Ukrainian capital.

REALLY????
As though the other carriers in Ukraine have tons of additional services. I thought almost all airlines are no frills nowadays.

The article was quoted verbatim, incidentally, as the press reported itl

You would expect minimum service anyway, since the longest distance within Ukraine may only take 1:40 flying time, at the most.

Well I have flown a lot inside Ukraine and I pay the FULL rate and all you get for that is a cup of water in a plastic cup there is only one airline that flies into Chernivsti and that is Aerosvit, Raspberry do you know if WIZZ will be adding that route anytime soon, as I am going to be using it more and more.

Incidently I agree most flights into/out of Kiev internally are no more than 1hr 40 minutes, but if they ever started flying from/to other cities rather than all going through Kiev the flights may be a little longer.

Chrismc, let me check on that for you. Also, keep in mind that Chernovitsi does have an international trip---a non-daily flight to Athens on Donbassaero.

No word on Wizz adding Chernovitsi. But I would not be surprised. And I think they will add Budapest, as that's their biggest hub, and connect with the rest of the system.

Yes, some of the air connections are horrendously bad. To get from Mariupol to Simferopol by air requires a long layover in Kiev......which effectively negates any benefit of flying. You could take taxi and almost be there already.

There is a spasmodic flight that goes from Chernivsti to Milan that would be great for me, the problem is though they cancel them all the time depending on how many punters they have, so it is hard to plan a trip over.

Aerosvit for some reason, purposely miss connnecting flights into Kiev by about 40 minutes, thus making you stay over night in Kiev or a 8 or 9 hour road journey, coming back from Chernivsti to Kiev is not a problem, Aerosvit take off at 7.05am and are well in time for connecting flights out of the Ukraine, but going is a nightmare.

I would even consider going to Athens first if I could guarantee a connection to Chernivsti.

Chernivsti International Airport is a joke, one flight in and one out a day does not give it International status in my book

I have seen the odd Donbassaero plane there though, so if you have any news on them or the flights via Athens then it will be appreciated.

Chrismc, I forgot to mention that the Athens-Chernovitsy trip continues to some other part of Ukraine. I think either Odessa and/or Donetsk.

Thanks Raspberry, do you know where you can find information on this for future reference.

full disclosure: I had invested in them heavily a few months ago at 7 cents and sold out at 10 cents a share.

Flight 561 leaves Chernovitsy 8:00am arrives Athens 12:45pm

This Donbassaero flight operates on WEDNESDAYS ONLY!! Oh, yes, this makes one stop in Lviv enroute to CWC.

Thanks for that Raspberry, now I wonder how easy it is to fly to Athens it is years since I have been there. But I have 2 tickets to buy for June fights out of Chernivsti I hope so may be worth me looking at it.

Is this the link to the Donabassaero site you used ?? http://www.donbass.aero/m1/en/index

Athens is a pretty easy airport to navigate through. The new airport opened a few years back....it is in the middle of nowhere(much like Denver). Since opening, the number of flights have increased 5% each year. The terminals are all connected, unlike the old airport where you had to get off and bus between the three terminals.

There are flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, and seasonal Glasgow service---as far as UK airports go. You can check the list on the official Athens airport website: www.aia.gr
