Mariupol-Crimea Boat Service??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Upon looking at a map, there appears to be a boat run between Mariupol and Kerch........

Anyone know anything about ferry service between Mariupol and Crimea?

I’ll see you damned first!

Don’t believe everything. There is no longer a ferry between Odessa and the Crimea! What about the backwoods? Fat chance!

Igor, since you live there, you know better than I.....but for the benefit of everyone else, I would like to know which ferries exist and which do not.

This map, which I bought in Zaporozhye last year(and it may likely not be current), shows the following routes:

Mariupol to Azov(RU), Kerch, Tanganrog(RU)
Berydansk to Kerch
Odessa to Ochakov, Khorlih, Evaptoria, Sevastopol, and the Romanian ports of Soulina and Constanta.

And yes, not listed on the map---but I have heard of elsewhere---is the "Pineapple Express".......are you familiar with this??

Don’t believe everything means don’t believe maps either I have not heard about any actually running ferries. I only heard about those that were there in the past, in the 1980’s for example. Now they are all gone. The map shows principal marine ways (like highways) but it does not mean the ways are trodden they are just there. I even searhed the Web but no mention of active passenger maritime connection between the towns.

Yet, if somebody gives a tip about it it will be great to know. But I do not believe it

Not sure about the fruit express either. Haven’t heard ’bout it I guess.

Igor, thanks for the clarification. I just didn't want anyone else to assume there were ferries running, when they don't exist.

However, one thing that the map pointed out is the actual route of the trains. When I went from Simferopol to Odessa(on my first trip), it seemed like the last portion of the trip(Kherson-Mykolayiv-Odessa) took a really long time. Now I can see why, as the route is not a straight line.

"Pineapple Express" is the name of a Greek-based boat. It starts in Pireaus(Athens), with other stops in Northern Greece, and Black Sea destinations in Dardanelles Islands, Turkey, Ukraine, and Russia. It is not on any kind of regular schedule, but will stop in Odessa ocassionally.

Trains suck. It takes them AGES. 13 freaking hours from Odessa to Simferopol. Because of the detour too. (I am still wondering why there is no direct track from Krasnoperekopsk to Simferopol). But they are slow on their own too.

I usually take a van, it costs $20 and takes less than 7 hours.
