Hi Everyone...

I thought that I would start a thread about your experiences of the best restaurants in Moscow?

Which restaurants have you tried, and what has been your experience of them?

I absolutely love one named "Courvoisier". (just like the drink) It serves all kinds of gourmet food, is very inexpensive, and is full of the "beautiful people" in Moscow. The lasagne is to die for. There is a fully stocked bar, and it is open 24 hours. There is a DJ spinning very interesting music at nights.

The location is on Garden Ring Rd at the Sukarevskaya metro station.

Thanks for the recommendation, Steve

I stayed at Lena's aunts apartment while I spent a week in Moscow, and so we ate home cooked food every night and I was not able to experience any Moscow restaurants

I did try a Subway sandwich shop in Moscow, and it tasted just like the Subway's in the U.S...

Thanks again for your input...

Khashyar???????? Subway???? Of all the places you could have eaten, Subway? I'm just busting your chops a little.

Actually I also have eaten at Mc Donald's in Russia a few times. It is quite an experience for the Russian kids from orphanages. But I don't understand why people travel halfway around the world, and then stay at a hotel that looks like America, and eat at restaurants that taste like America. It's cheaper to just stay in America.

When I travel. I try to submerge myself in the local culture. In London last December, I tried to get "pie and mash" in a local pub at 10 at night. None of the pubs serve food after nine. I was actually tempted to eat at an American restaurant, but I ended up eating Chinese food in a very historic..very British part of London. Go figure.

If we ever meet in California Khashyar, I would ask you for places that I could never see or experience in Texas.

I ate at a couple of restraunts, but the one that stuck out in my mind is "My-My" (or in Russian "Moo-Moo") It's a chain account that mainly serves Russian meals.

"My-my" is definately not to be missed. I especially liked the one on Old Arbat, lots of different meals to choose from like different soups (Borcht), fish, meat, salads and other stuff. I especially like their mushroom stew in a little pot with some cheese melted on top of it. My impression is that you can get just about anything there. Why even bother going to McBoring ...

For something Italian I would recommend "Patio Pizza" at Volkhonka (opposite the Pushkin museum). Great Italian pizza!

"Yolki-Palki", I believe is some Mongolian inspired place (correct me if I'm wrong). I had some noodle dish there and tea, good for something quick and tasty. I have visited the one on the corner of Tverskaya and Pushkin square.

I was also fortunate enough to visit an Azerbadjani restaurant near the Tretyakov gallery, but alas I don't remember the name of the place. They had som really neat dishes there, and also some small sweet dessert cakes to die for!

Will try to post more restaurant experiences when I get my brain working again and remember those names ...

Q: How will I know where My-My is located, and how can I find it?

A: Just walk up Arbat from the metro station and look for a big, fake cow on the left side. That place rocks!!!!!

Thanks for the photo, Steve

I think that the cow would be hard to miss

LMAO!!!! I think everybody must have tride that place.

Posted by: AngryFisherman

Yeah, that cow stuck out like a sore thumb on Arbat ... and those eyes ... mad cow!

And by the way, don't forget to pick up one of these beauties after your meal there ...

Thanks for posting the great picture of the candy

These personal contributions is one of the things that makes a discussion forum like this unique, valuable and interesting.

I notice this thread does not get alot of use, but I wanted to include a restaurant that we went to in Moscow. It served traditional Russian food and I thought it was very good. Very good service, airconditioned, Gypsies available for a small fee to play music, and interesting decor (inside and out). Unfortunately it is dark enough inside that not many photos took. One of them now identified as a samovar is in my photo folder in the members section.

The restaurant is Jar Ptica, I translated as "Heat a Bird" I was told it is "Fire Bird". I like the second name better . It is on Tverskaya street.

It is not a cheap restaurant, expect an easy $100 a person
