from http://www.visatorussia.com/russian...gistration.html

PHP Code:
If you stay at a private apartmentyour visa must be registered by your landlordPlease have the landlord apply at the local police precinct (in Moscow) or FMS office (commonly known as OVIRin other citiesHe will need to fill out a notification form indicating your passport and migration card detailsA landlord can also send notification form by registered mail to the postal address of the local police precinct/FMS office

Hi

If I read this correctly I can 'rent' an apartment of my 'in-laws' and have them registrated me, by filling out this notification and sent it to the police?

It would be easier if you went to the police yourself and register your passport.

That is being refused in some situations now. I'm suprised by the link above
as several people have told me the police told them they HAD to go to the person/company that issued the invitation.

Jutman: The in-laws will need to physically go to the police station and register your visa. It takes too many days to do it by physical mail. And if you get stopped by the police without the little form...Yikes!!!

thanks

just, my in-law dont want the trouble of making a private invitation, so I just get a tourist visa. But I am not that 'happy' about paying for hotel, for 2 weeks or more, I won't be using. so this way, could be a solution.

Once we tried OVIR and they refused to registrer a tourist visa.

And I once did'nt register and went to Moscow and sent to the police station to fix it.

I could be fun, just to try it.
