Fiance Visa rejected

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My girlfriend recently applied for a fiance visa which was rejected and I would like some advice on what to do next.

The application was rejected due to the ECO not being satisfied that we have a significant relationship, the short time we have known each other and that he didn't believe we planned to live together after marriage. We only started corresponding at the start of the year and we have met just once, when I visited her in home city of Kharkov in February.

It appears from the rejection statement that the ECO only considered the emails as evidence of our relationship because he did not mention the phone calls. I think that this may be because I was not able to provide itemised telephone bills showing the phone calls to my girlfriend's home number. I use a telephone service to take advantage of the cheaper rate, so only the number of this service shows on my bill and I wasn't able to get anything from the telephone company to show that I was calling her. To compound the problem, my telephone bills are e-Bills and not original copies sent to my home address. Of course, I provided print outs of these bills with my application together with details of the telephone service but I guess that this was not high enough quality evidence.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I was worriied at the time that it may have been too soon to make the application but my girlfriend had a job on a cruise ship and the next contract was due to begin in February and would last for 9 months. It would have been very difficult even to exchange emails whilst she was on the ship and in view of the difficulties in staying touch over such a long period, we decided to take the riisk and apply for the visa early.

We have the right to appeal the decision, but we would need grounds in order to do so. I was hoping we could appeal on the grounds that the ECO didn't consider the fact that we talk on the phone regularly as evidence of our relationship. We also exchanged 2 snail mail letters.

If the ECO sticks to his guns, the whole appeal process will take about 7 to 8 months and should this happen, I wonder if it would be better to abandon the appeal and get married in Ukraine after we have met a few more times.

Anyway, your advice would be appreciated!

You pretty much answered your own question.. As it stands now the ECO knows that you're a "One Week Wonder" and really don't know this woman enough to have a clue if you're going to be compatable in the long run.

Take some time, get to know her ALOT better...

A WHOLE, WHOLE LOT BETTER!

I started writing my girl in october....of 2006. When they asked for proof of correspondence besides the two trips worth of pictures, I gave them the last 6 months of text charges, and phone bills. I didn't want to pay the postage for 18 months of bills to uzbekistan.
You didn't state ages but....large differences in age may raise eyebrows at the interview. May I suggest visajourney.com for specific questions and answers?
Hate to hear that more time will be needed but try to put this in perspective.

One VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT thing you must show is PHOTOS OF YOU TOGETHER!

You should visit a few more times to build up a relationship they cannot ignore. Try bringing her to the UK for a visit, shows you are serious and obey the visa rules. There is no need to rush anything, take your time and build up the evidence, it makes applying for visa's a lot easier.
Getting married is no guarantee of a successful visa application if the ECO still believes it is not a serious relationship. A friend of my better half has just been refused a spouse visa in similar circumstances to yours.

I should add, that I started writing to my better half around the same time a few years ago, but by the April I was on my third visit.

One reason I decided against applying for the tourist visa was that my girlfriend is unemployed because she didn't take up the job on the cruise ship. After reading some of the threads on RMP I gathered that this could be a problem and lead to a rejection. I.e. on the grounds that the applicant should have a compelling reason to return.

We have plans to go on holiday together in June. Could you suggest a country, preferably in Europe, where she either won't require a visa or it would be relatively easy to obtain?

You'll be able to find the answers to the travel visa questions here.

I suspect that you now have a black mark against you now with the ECO for future visa's so you'll need to make sure the next one is 100% ready with all the correct documents and supporting documents.

I was in Varna Bulgaria last August. We stayed in a Resort called Golden Sands. Great place and many people spoke English. Not that expensive either. Varna is on the Black Sea so you can swim and boat if desired. It also has museums, ancient ruins, a dolphin show, and great food! She will need a visa but they are easy to get to Bulgaria.

Have her go through a travel agent to book a hotel, her plane tickets, and her visa. A visa was very easy to get to Bulgaria and travel agents know the ins and outs of getting one for a FSU person. Some countries require a certain amount of money in her bank account before she can get a visa. For the Czech Republic it was 100 Euros for every day she was there.

Good luck and have a great time!

would not Turkey or Egypt be just as easy for a FSU women to get a Visa, as GTR states Bulgaria would be relativly easy for a FSU women.
My question is why a neutral country? if your FSU women has no job, would it not be better to see her in her home town?

Good question, but I already visited her in her home town of Kharkov in February. I would like take her away on holiday for our next meeting, somewhere hot and sunny and by the sea.

Turkey or Egypt would fit the bill and be the least expensive from the FSU. Look at BlueCatz's thread about Egypt.

I can understand these thoughts, she may not want to stay in Ukraine, but you could also look into the Crimea (Sevastopol or Yalta), or even Sochi in Russia, they of course would be easy for her to travel to, but you may be looking for something more "exotic" or not wanting to go thru the hassel of getting a visa for yourself, just throwing these out as options, if money is a concern.

Sochi is much much more expensive than Egypt or Turkey. It's a resort with Moscow prices. Just bear it in mind...

But, like I found out the hard way, going anywhere in Egypt other than Cairo is a boatload of money for airfare (still trying to figure out why, I think its the landing fee's they charge american airliners as compared to Russian based airlines ). Unless you detour thru Moscow like me, then its very reasonable, but you need the visa thing also.

Landing fees are universal - the resorts in Turkey are smart. Low prices and the tourist will spend a lot of money elsewhere. I've been on some trips to Turkey with friends from Moscow and it was great and cheap. Had a blast.

Slovenia is very nice, and she doesn't need a VISA to get there!

I think Malta & Cyprus are easy to get to for Russians and have a mild climate...
