Affectionate form of a lady's Name

Hi gang,

I have yet another newbie Q for you all (well, actually for whoever knows the answer).

I know that in the Russian lingo there is an "Affectionate Name" Elena=Lenochka.

My question is: Is there an english translation for it? What I am saying when I use that form of her name?

Again, I know it infers tenderness and affection, but what does it mean?

Thanks,
Tim (who still can't get enough of that voice)

It would basicly mean small, warm, cute. Not a direct translation but you get the idea.

Well, Elena is equal to Helen or Elaine, neither of which in English have a nick name. However in Russian Elena has many diminutives. Lenochka, as you said, Lenka, Lenok, Lenchik and Lenusik all used by different people at different times with different meaning. (by meaning, i dont mean they mean a different name, but that it has different significance).
ie: you don't usually say Billy for William in a business situation or when you dont know the person well, yes? And if your mom calls you Billy usually, if she says William, come here. You know the difference, yes?

Thanks Mike, I get it. And she loves it. That's all that really matters, but I was curious. She could only come up with gentle when I asked her today. Yeh, small, warm, cute, Elena. That works for both of us.

Myshka, thanks for your help. I guess I'll have to figure a few more of those details out as I get deeper in, or should I say further down the slippery slope I stepped onto.

Her Birthday gifts arrived today too and russianservice sent me the pics of the delivery. She thanked me right away. I think she likes me.

Ok, done gushin now,

Tim

Another anology might be a cat versus a cute fuzzy kitten. Both are the same critter but the little one is soft and warm and cute.

Well, I think I all over this lil kitten like fuzz on a peach. Like fish on a...?

Tim

Now how come there's no WOOHOOO!!! in the "Your Mood" list? Huh? How Come?
