Fiance visa - Wedding arrangements

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I wonder if someone could tell me if it is necessary to have made arrangements for the wedding ceremony before applying for the fiance visa.

My girlfriend and I decided to apply for the visa so that we could live together and get to know each other better before deciding (hopefully) to get married before the visa expires.

However, there are specific questions on the application form about the date and location of the wedding ceremony and some of the sample interview questions I have seen which could be asked at the visa interview even go as far as asking who the bridesmaids will be and who is on the quest list!

I wouldn't want to jeopardise the application for the want of make a provisional arrangement at the registry office. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on finding your possible bride for life Jongleur and welcome to the forum!

I can't speak for the UK but Chrismc can help. I see he is on the board now. Maybe he will give you some advise.

Oops, I see he has signed off. You can check out these threads http://www.russianmeetingplace.com/...isplay.php?f=92. they are about visas in the UK. You can also send Chrismc a private message.

Again welcome!

Jongluer, welcome!

A far as I know you don't have to have arranged the wedding, I am getting married in Ukraine so it is different, however, take note of this:-

Prospective fiances MUST provide documentary proof to show that:

They plan to marry or register a civil partnership within a 6 months (if not married in Ukraine first)

They plan to live together permanently after they are married

They have met one another before

There is somewhere for them (and any dependants) to live until they get married without any help from public funds

They (and any dependants) can be supported without working or claiming any help from public funds

and As much documentary evidence as you can both muster to prove the existence of an ongoing relationship and your firm intention to marry

Those bits are very important.

Thanks for this Chrismc. After reading your reply I have made a provisional booking at the local registry office and asked them to confirm it in writing.

I hope that this will be sufficient documentary evidence that we plan to marry.

Yes that will help and anything else you can think of, it all helps.

We had nothing arranged when we applied for the fiancée visa.

You cannot actually arrange your wedding without the bride as the registrar will want to to talk to the bride alone to make sure she understands what is going on and she agrees with it, to prevent forced marriages.

Neither did we. The whole wedding was planned after Natasha had already arrived on her fiancée visa.
