Hi Guys,
When you 1st met your FSU women, what did she think of the way you dressed when you met her? Did she like your style? Did she think you were out of style?

I remember meeting my ex & the current women I am seeing at the moment & they both told me that I dress like a typical American. I asked them what they meant by that comment & the 1st thing they said was "You can always tell an American by his shoes". I don't wear dressy black shoes. I usually wear Doc Martin boots or shoes or sneakers.

I personally dress everyday in a pair of jeans, black or blue with either a T shirt or a button shirt. Both women told me I dress like a rock star. And they both said they did not really prefer this. They both like a man to dress in style for what the European man style of dress.

When I go to the FSU I never wear my sneakers except in the summer when I have shorts on and not dressier clothes.

So have any of you ever been told by the women you went to see that she thought you were not dressed good enough or you were not in fashion according to her taste or what was typical for a Russian or Ukraine man.

I asked both women if they would like me to dress better while I was with them and they both said yes. Both of them did not like if I wore jeans that were faded at all or that looked worn in. They both preferred jeans that were jet black & not faded or dress slacks or blue jeans that were not worn or faded.

Both women told me that they think jeans that are worn or faded make you look like a poor person. Even if the jeans are brand new & a designer brand they both said the same thing.

have you guys had any experience like that with any of the women you met or the one you married?

JUST CURIOUS, THAT'S ALL!

Yes my wife and others liked the way I dressed there. Usually good sport jacket and tie or turtleneck. Seldom jeans or sneakers.
I can remember some dates in america where I knew women that were professionals and dressed nice. I took one out and she was dressed like she was going for a walk in the park. I still see her around occasionally and she is still single 10 years later.
My feelings are that if you're gonna spend the 10's 0f thousands doing the foreign route it least put some $ into a new wardrobe. I can remember seeing one american in mechanic type slacks on a date in Moscow. They were new and clean but definately out of place.

in my two trips neither girl stated I was dressed incorrect. At times I had jeans on but none were faded, or worn out. I usually will wear a sport coat and tie at the first meeting because first impressions are lasting impressions. On other occassions was either very nice jeans or dress slacks, with a nice either pullover type shirt or button down. Personally I have never worn any shorts or gym shoes while in Russia (both trips were in the summer). The only comment I got or questioned about my dress was on the second trip, I had arranged for many guided tours to various museums and such throught Moscow and the tour guide (same tour guide for 4 of the 6 tours we took) asked me about my shoes. When she asked I was first thinking that they were a little casual, because the first full day in Moscow the woman I went to meet and myself walked for hours and hours and hours all around Moscow (I do not think there was a street we did not walk or a subway train we did not rid on this day) on this day I had on dress slacks and dress shoes by the end of the day my feet were KILLING me (they were actaully still hurting a week later when I left Moscow) so every day after that I had on some more comfortable but still nice walking shoes. The tour guide clarified her question she wanted to know why I was not wearing sandals or something like that, she said the shoes I was wearing looked too warm, and that she could always tell an American by the shoes becuase they always look to warm. Personally my style is a dressed up casual look, we are after all still trying to get to know these woman and dress can say a lot about the person. I will also add that the woman I met dressed much the same as I did and so one was not over or under dressed according to the other.

She said I had NO style! A few bucks and too many hours of shopping later and she's very happy now. EVERYTHING (even my undies) had to be replaced. I still wear my old stuff for work, but when we go out I dress in my new duds. I have to admit that I really like my new look and does she. So guys, if she doesn't like your look and you can swing it, just go and buy some better clothes, because you really don't want to over clothes, right?

In other words Tim, she now has you trained just as she wants you don;t worry mate, we are all the same, we all get tamed very quicly with these RW

I'm ALMOST housebroken now! My training proceeds apace. I never whistle indoors now and almost never burp anywhere near the table or blow my nose in public view and I can eat without wearing my food more often too. I'm much less messy when she feeds me though. LOL

For some reason she thinks it's hilarious when I sing (in the truck) "I love to go swimin with bow legged women and swim between their legs." Think Col Sherman T Potter (MASH) in the shower. Cracks her up EVERY time. Every now and then we'll be walking through a store and I'll just start singing a made up little ditty about how I'm with the most beautiful girl in the place. BIG blush, but she loves it...

All the FSU women I met said they liked the way I dressed. When flying I wear comfortable clothes (dockers and a polo shirt). When I go out I wear dress pants and a dress shirt.

I don't think it matters what you wear as long as it coordinates, doesn't look old, or has holes. And of course no shorts, jeans, tee shirts, or sport shoes if you are going out for supper.

Just use common sense.

Well at first she said everything was fin. Later, in conversation she mentioned that we would have to go shopping. I asked if she didn't like my style, she said -

And just to show not all RW are the same, I have one pair of (long) shorts in my wardrobe that my lady just loves. She will almost insist I wear them everywhere we go as long as the temperature is suitable.

I really have to answer this question, because my wife was was very unhappy with the way I was dressed, the first time we met and told me so, in no uncertain terms!

No, it wasn't the style she objected to. It was the fact that I walked from the plane to the gate, where she was waiting, wearing a shirt and light jacket. The temperature was more than -30C. In just that two hundred yard walk, it felt like my ears had caught fire! It was THAT cold.

The first words she ever spoke, on our very first meeting, were about the ridiculous clothes I was wearing.

Unfortunately, my clothes dont have to look worn or faded for her to think I look like a poor person!

I love my husband's style to dress, and of course every occasion requires a different way to dress.

HE HE HE ... I got the same speech when I landed in Moscow with a light jacket!!!

I wore jeans and t shirts all through my first visit , shorts when it was hot , a suit to the opera, not one word from my other half.
She did try to shop for clothes for me when she first moved to england , was not very sucessful as we have different tastes and opinions, and now leaves me to get on with it and I dress the same as I always have.

On a different note, she definatley dresses differently in the UK than she does in Russia, even now when she goes home she dresses smarter,ie she will get dressed up to go to the shops, and definatley no jeans. Some days she says what the heck, but I guess you dress to fit with the envoiroment your in!!!
