Lawyering jobs in Russia?

Any lawyers here? I was wondering what you could do in Russia job-wise with a Juris Doctor (JD) law degree....I know little to nothing about the contemporary common law system there.

I was thinking about working a bit abroad (specifically, eastern Europe), but besides teaching English for $17K/yr, I would like to try and utilize my legal education somehow there for a bit more compensation.

As far as language ability, I took 2.5 years of language and culture courses, but not fluent. I would definitely study up enough though prior to going in order to gain some kind of language competency, though.

(edit): I guess I am wondering what an American law degree is valued in Russia as far as accredation with Russian firms/government agencies.

If Russia credits you like the US credits FSU citizens with their diploma's. You s
basicly start all over. My wife has 2 masters and they count nil towards anything here.
Her licenseing there did count about 1/2 of the hours towards her license here.

I think the only type of job in the legal field in Russia you could get would be if you worked for an American company that has a subsidiary in Russia.

If your specialty is US Tax, then I think you would have no problems getting a job working for a US audit firm, like PWC. But if you are thinking of trying to do general practice, I don't think you stand a chance. The other option might be, to be a legal aid in Russia, for a company that works with British, Canadian, Australian, or American companies. In other words you would be a glorified translator.
