British women seeking foreign husbands

Hello,

My name is Jessica Honeyball and I work for Zigzag Productions, an independent television production company in London, UK which has both a well respected reputation and considerable experience in making documentary films. At the moment I am working on the development of a series for UK broadcaster Channel 4 which looks at women increasingly assuming roles more traditionally associated with men, and in this specific case looks at less conventional ways of British women finding husbands.

We are hoping to produce a documentary that looks at British women turning the traditional mail order roles on their heads and getting online or otherwise to find their future partners outside of the UK. On the internet Russia and the Ukraine have almost become synonymous with “mail order bride” websites and it seems that brides from every corner of the globe are available and seeking western men on the internet. But what we have been interested in finding are western women seeking foreign husbands. According to various blogs and international dating sites there seem to be a growing number of UK marriage-hungry women becoming disillusioned with the western dating game and looking for happiness further away from home, however there don’t seem to be many sites offering western women the chance to find a “mail order husband”.

We have since found a UK and Ukraine based agency that is looking to start up the first mail order husbands site that is soon to launch in the UK but we are also extremely keen to discover whether any existing couples are living in the UK, where British women have actively sought a foreign (Russian/Ukrainian) husband and asked him to relocate to their home in the UK or Ireland.

I wondered whether anyone was aware of any such couples who are co-habiting/married/divorced where the British woman has gone out of her way to meet him specifically in his country of origin? Or any independent British women and foreign men who are seeking to marry the other? I would love to talk to anyone who is able to shed any light on this!

My email address is jessica@zigzag.uk.com and contact number 0207 017 8755 and I very much look forward to hearing from anyone who is willing to help us with our research (confidentially, with of course no commitment to filming at this stage).

Thank you so much for your time!

Jess

Jess,

You do not endear yourself to forum members by using the term "mail order", it implies you are buying a product. They are just international internet dating/introduction agencies, similar to match.com or datingdirect.co.uk. Your use of the expression "mail order" could be construed as discrimination against foreigners as you imply that relationships with people from certain countries only occur because one partner has been paid for.

Gosh, I'm really sorry to have caused offence - you're absolutely right, international introduction agencies are the correct term, and I apologise to anybody to whom I might have caused offence. I guess the term has become so coined that I used it without ever actually thinking that a person was someone that you could purchase, and this is not something that the programme is getting at in the slightest. I am hoping to post something in the main forum and am so glad that I had the chance to hear your opinion before I could have potentially offended other forum readers.

I really appreciate your words and I'm sorry if I have upset you.

Thanks again,

Jess

I agree with swindoom and I think you will find most of the membership on this forum and similar forums will think the same.

Before you go dreaming up a TV production on International Dating, I suggest you familiarise yourself with the industry and ditch the dergotive MOB and MOH tags. You won't get any help around any of these forums bandying phrases like that around.

Sorry, you need to know gen up on your subject matter first !

Again, I'm sorry to have included that phrase in my message - in fact the agency that we have been speaking to is an international marriage introductions site. I have spoken to a number of people about the subject so please don't think I haven't done any research on the international introductions front. I'm just terribly embarrassed to have upset people already. Apologies again, and I do hope that my next post with offensive phrases omitted can be looked at rather than the original.

That is part of the problem with this whole industry, how would you feel if you had moved abroad to marry the man of your dreams who you loved dearly, only to hear others talking about you as a MOB or worse!

OK apologies accepted

There is a member on here who has already appeared in a documentary on C4, it followed him to Russia to meet his bride and covered their wedding etc etc, he may be a good port of call for you, if he reads this I am sure he wil comment.

In fact I worked with Lucy, the producer/director of that documentary on another film 2 years ago and I thought James seemed lovely - and his wife Luida (I think that was her name?) An extremely beautiful lady.

You're right, I should try to contact him as he may well know of women who have become interested in such introductions. Some agencies I have spoken to have said that the female relatives of men who have successfully met and married foreign ladies have been so envious of their happiness that they have expressed interest in such a service themselves but that the agencies weren't able to give them the support they needed to meet men from other countries.

I really hope we can find some content couples as there seems to be such happiness in some of the couples who have made commitments to each other and are now living together.

Thanks so much for your advice.

I think it is easy to find Western men who have married Eastern women, but the opposite although a lot have done it, do not tend to frequent forums quite the same.

Posted by: jessicazigzag

It's interesting that they don't. We have been trying many different ways in which to contact them - could you recommend any ways that we might be able to reach them? How are you aware that it has happened many times the other way round? Very few introduction agencies have the services to facilitate meetings between British women and Ukrainian/Russian men so they are unable to help us... so many questions! Sorry, just so keen to speak to anyone with any information.
