IS THIS NORMAL

IS it ok and normal for a 30 year old russian lady to sleep in the same bed with her 25 year old brother i have seen them change clothes down to underware together would this be ok and any ansewer what this is and would it be normal in russain culture

Posted by: GoingToRussia

Welcome to forum don4!

I don't think you would call it normal, more like necessary ... maybe. Some "apartments" in the Former Soviet Union (FSU) have only one room with a place in the corner for a shower. Maybe they only own 2 beds, 1 for the parents and 1 for the kids. It's either the bed or the floor.

Posted by: Ade

I laughed when I saw this, and asked my wife (a Russian); her eyes widened and she said 'I don't believe it's her brother.'

So there's an honest-to-goodness RW's take on the matter of whether it's 'normal' for Russia.

It's not normal to slleep in one bed Is he really a brother?

As for changing clothes in front of a close male relative... Don't know, if a girl has no time and place to go at the moment, she probably can do it in a joking manner. "Sorry, Serg, either you bugger off right now or I have to change my T-shirt right here. We must be off in five minutes"

all i can say,is from my own experiences in russia. when my RW and i were sharing a train compartment overnight with two complete strangers,(to us and to each other) my girl had to change clothes and beleive me,you dont want to in the head. all she did was ask my new buddy,"alexander"to turn away, like this,"alexander, would you please?" of course i stared at him,he looked at me, then my girl, this happened in 3 awkward seconds, and said,"kanyechno",(of course)and then turned around as far as he could. she didnt get naked, just to her underwear, which as you all know in fashionable female circles, aint much then put on her pajamas. when her 25 year old brother is around, she is even more modest. its the old "hide my true self from family thing" or a lady thing if you will. the 21 year old girl who slept above us, i dont know her name, left to change in the bathroom- peeeeww-yuck! i think she was a wee bit uncomfortable because she was traveling overnight all alone. -she wasnt hard to look at either. but the point is,i wonder about the brother thing. maybe,if they are from a very rural village area,or very poor, you sleep where its warm and where u can,its probably accepted as normal or like GTR said. -but ive never heard of it.-and im from the SOUTH

No, being 'poor' doesn't make this normal. My wife is from an extremely poor background and would never countenance behaviour like this. She's also spent a good portion of her early years in what may be called a 'village' situation and again, it isn't normal there either.

Come on people, this isn't 'normal' behaviour for adult siblings........not anywhere in Russia or the West.

I don't think anyone said it was normal but sometimes necessary.

I think this thread should be moved to the Hillbillies forum....LOL. Kinda sounds like a scene from the movie Deliverence. Does anyone hear Banjo's playing?

I can't think it's very necessary either......if it were you, in your 20s, would you have slept in the same bed as your undressed 30 year old sister, or would you have slept on the floor?

First of all they have seen each other in their underwear, it didn't say what they were sleeping in (clothes). If I had a choice of laying on the floor in the middle of winter without a blanket or sleeping with my sister, I'm sure I would sleep in a nice warm bed with my sister then freeze of the floor.

You have to remember some of these people can't afford food, let alone bedding or money to pay for heat.

As I said, it's not normal but perhaps necessary.

No, not necessary. Why do you think the floor would be freezing? - the Russian houses I've been in were all consistently warm, if not hot - and that included apartments specifically for the very poor.

Also, to use the same kind of argument you are trying to, in using what was not said, there was never any mention of poverty or cold.

You may think it could be 'necessary', I don't. Neither do my wife or Seaview, the two women who've commented on it.

Maybe things are different in America?

Well I guess you and they haven't seen the poorer parts of Russia and the FSU. Not all buildings have free heat and are kept toasty warm.

Posted by: mistermopar

Very interesting,I have never heard of this.
Poor or not I don't think brother and sister of this age would be sleeping in the same bed.
But if I can think to ask some people here I will.

I have been to the central market and seen ladies pulling off their tops in the narrow walk ways to try on clothes before buying them with out a care who was around.

Theres a very busy market just outside Chernivsti where women go to buy clothes, they change out in the open air as the ,market is just stalls, if they are lucky a stall holder will hold up a towel to hide their modesty,

I wouldn't recommend taking photos of it all though there are a few unsavoury characters about the place

100% wrong about who has seen the poorer parts of Russia. My wife is from an exceptionally poor background, and has lived in the streets out in Siberia.

She says it's not normal and it's not necessary for adult siblings to be sleeping together in one bed. I know her factual knowledge of the rough life in Russia is a better barometer of the situation than your supposition of some normality wherein adult siblings sleep together for no good reason.

Again, revisit the first post. There are no 'dire' situations mentioned, just an alleged pair of siblings hopping into bed together.

If you go back and read my posts, you will see that I said it is not normal and I gave a good explaination as why it MIGHT be necessary.

Here is my experience. I wrote to a woman from Kazan Russia. She had 2 adult children (son and daughter). They lived in a 1 room apartment. When her husband was killed in the line of duty, he was a policeman, they had to sell there apartment and buy a 1 room flat. She sells shoes and didn't make much money. Her children slept together in the winter "to stay warm".

Also my fiancee pays for her heat. The heating system is horrible. I see her EVERYDAY bundled up in blankets to stay warm. So don't tell me all apartments are toasty warm.

You see your fiancee EVERYDAY bundled up in blankets? Or are you exaggerating? Everyday?

My experience of being in Russia several times, in the winter, in Siberia, was that each and every apartment I went to, including some in the very poorest areas of Bratsk, were uncomfortably warm. Maybe you just happen to write to unlucky women. You must be; my wife, who has lived in various cities in Siberia, and the wider FSU, tells me she's never been in an apartment that suffered from bad heating. That they exist, I don't doubt. But that still doesn't make it normal or necessary for two adult siblings, of prime sexual age, to sleep together.

And you didn't give a good explanation of why it may be necessary for two adult siblings to sleep together, you gave an explanation - big difference in whether it's good or not.

Hey, I can tell from your posts in response to mine, that for some reason you've taken a dislike to me. I couldn't care less. That still doesn't make it normal or necessary for adult siblings to sleep together.

The most popular complain of Russians used to "uncomfortably warm" central heating: "Why are English houses so cold? "

I've known a lady married to a Brit who had a permanent argument with her husband about temperature in their house

Tell me about it, was in Bulgaria last summer (for first meeting) with fiancee, the outside temperature was 35-38 celcius. The first thing that i did on entering hotel room...crank the A/C down to 20...let me tell you that didn't last too long when she got to room.

Apparently we will be having many arguments over heating in winter and a/c in winter...awww...who am i kidding, i'm totally looking psyched for it!!

You're kidding!!! I was in Varna Bulgaria at the end of August, 35 - 40 everyday. Hung out at the pool ... the "scenery" was mighty fine!

I think Bugaria was my favorite place I visited in Bulgaria ... and I was sick most of the time!

Posted by: mistermopar

I bet it isn't the pool furniture your talking about....

Randy

Posted by: GoingToRussia

You're right Randy ... it had something to do with "headlights".

Posted by: AkMike

Ah Yes! Headlights make the day much brighter!

Posted by: mistermopar

Sarcasm, cool. I never claimed to be always right, so don't be so childishly pathetic. What I can claim compared to you, in all reality, is more knowledge of Russia, having visited several times and being married to a Russian Woman.

You are, at times from your posts, clearly a fool. Uneducated, I don't know, but certainly not very good at writing in English. Hey, now you've got me stooping to your level!!!

Both of you really need to put each other on ignore. This bickering isn't needed or wanted!

Maybe they should have another section of this forum where people can just bi**h each other out, talk bad to each other and generally put each other down. That way it won't be in the normal threads where we don't have to read about it.

Posted by: AkMike

It can be done thru PM's easily.
This isn't what is expected here! Both of these members have added to this site's quality until now.

Posted by: GoingToRussia

I wasn't bickering, I told Ade he was right and I was wrong.

I only told him what I saw and heard and for some reason he didn't believe me.

My posting about what is "normal" was finished until you guys poked your nose into it.

"The Fool"

Posted by: AkMike

I don't know what has happened between you 2 but your post could be considered 'baiting'. His was over the top response IMO.

I don't have a dog in this fight so yes, I'm sticking my nose in for the good of the site.
