I second NCZ's sentiments, please continue with your story/trip report. More of your thoughts on what you saw in Egypt, and more so on your impressions of what you experienced about Moscow. Where you feel you made mistakes and where you feel you scored points. What you learned good or bad that without travelling you would never had thought of or experienced. it is all good.

Aww Man, you mean I have to express my thoughts and feelings now? Are ya turning into a chick on me Chilli?

If a woman ever asks you this question, I would think twice before answering in the same way if you do answer the same way, make sure to run like h ll.

OK, at Chilli's request, I will give my thoughts on my trip so far. On the plane ride to Moscow, I was really nervous about what I would do the first 30 seconds after we see each other. I had taken a book and my MP3 player on the plane, didn't use either one, just kept thinking. Of course when you have 10 hours to contimplate this, your mind starts bringing up weird scenarios. Like, she see's me, says "EWWWWW" and runs like a scared cat, or I forget how to talk (which has happend before...LOL), or maybe she will think I look older than I did on cam and there would be no attraction towards me. Good thing I was wrong on all accounts.

The last phone call to Jenya, I told her to look for the tall guy that looked like he was totally lost. She told me later that I did look totally lost. When I seen her walk towards me, I told myself, "Self, you hit the jackpot on this one", and when she spoke, OMG, that accent sounds better in person. We had no trouble at all with the language barrier. She could speak pretty good English, and it was much easier face to face. I just could not take my eyes off of this beautiful woman. I kept pinching myself to make sure I was awake. I also kept telling myself "Don't do anything stupid now to ruin this". I knew right off that all I wanted to do was make this woman happy and see that cute, crooked smile of hers all the time. Of course you all know about the brain fart I had about a week later, good thing that was taken care of and forgotten about. I knew going over there that I was only about 2 steps away from being totally hooked by this woman. The first step was completed the fist day and the second step was to see how she looked at me in about a weeks time.

A few observations I made about the Russian people as a whole. They really have no common courtesy towards strangers at all. There is no holding the door open for someone, or letting them go ahead of you, or even saying "excuse me or pardon me" when they cut in line ahead of you. I did learn how to plow thru a crowd of people without saying "excuse me, pardon me", I just plowed on thru. If you try and let one person go thru the door ahead of you, you have at least 10 more following right behind that person without them even looking at you or saying Thank You.

On thing that kinda caught me off guard was that I was unprepared to make all the decisions on what we were to do that day or where to go. With the AW's I was married to, they made the decisions and I just had to follow or end up in a fight. Jenya would ask me things like "What do you want to do, where to go, what to eat", all I could do was tell her I didn't know, its not my town, don't know what there is here. I was trying to be accomodating to her wants and desires, do the things she wanted to do. After a while she would make the comment about her making all the decisions for us. So, after about a week of getting used to her, I just started making them before she would say anything. This seemed to make her a little bit happier. Now, if my dream comes true and she comes here to visit, well, this is my town so I make the decisions and take charge (yeah, like I know what the hell i'm doing...LOL). At first I felt like a kid starting a new school in a new city, after a while, I felt comfortable enuf to actually convince myself I knew what I was doing.

When we got to Egypt, after seeing all the trash and the crappy beach at the hotel, I kept telling myself that I wasn't here for a luxury vacation, I was here to get to know this woman and to make do with what's here. Good thing she pretty much had the same initial thoughts on the place. After a while you get used to the trash, the bugging Egyptians, all the honking cars and you begin not to notice them. Then I was not distracted and could focus everything on her. I knew after about 4 days that I had her hooked by the way she looked at me. I could just see the love in her eyes, now to get some type of verbal confirmation of that. For all you newbies reading this, don't, I repeat, don't try and trick, coerce or force a RW to tell you something that she is not comfortable telling you yet, just let it happen in its own time. When I talked to her today, she told me after about 4-5 days together, she knew that she was in Love with me. I asked her why she didn't tell me, she said she knew that I had known already and was waiting for me to tell her the same. So, a little hint to all you guys that feel you are in Love with the woman you are meeting, tell her, don't hesitate, just tell her right then and there. No need to be all manly and try to wait for her, you might be waiting a long time.

Well, enuf of the mushy, kissy feely type stuff here. Stay tuned for the next exciting episode, part 3 "Egyptian Excursions". Till next time....

I just say, Yes it does until she gives up and stops asking. WARNING!! This ONLY works if she really loves you and is accustomed to a twisted sense of humor like mine.

Hey Blu...

I saw the trash around... but did not think it was as bad as you say.... one of the reasons it looks so bad it that there was a lot of construction... and it seems this is being piled up all over the place... heck, it IS a desert and rock and stuff..

Also, to me not having any trees etc. made it look worse....

Where we stayed we were a few miles from the center of town... there were a lot of resorts... each had their own beach... these beaches were 'nice'... not great, but nice.. they would clean everything every day.... it is surprising how much sand gets moved around and covers stuff....

But the food was horrible... and the shop owners were 'your best friend' until you walked out and then they were rude as heck... and would not stop bothering you as you walked down the street...

SO... to all that want Egypt.... be warned... it is not like you are used to...

Now I will say... I got some of the same treatment in Ukraine... when we went to some of the tourist traps... they would be following you trying to sell something... and when you got off the plane and such, the cab drivers would hound you like nobody's business....

I agree about the construction, seems like they know how to put up the frame work of the building but seemed to run out of money to finish it. I didn't have much trouble with the cabbies in Moscow, a couple asked me if I needed a taxi, I just said "Nyet" and moved on. I think I know where you stayed, its out there where the water park and the bowling alley is. Your right, that area was nice and clean, wish I would have known about that area beforehand, the shop owners didn't seem to bug you as much out there as in town.

I noticed this my first time in Ukraine and took it personally at first. Then noticed they do it to everyone. That made me feel so much better!

With Dina: "Have you eeeten"? "No" "We must go shopping. You will eat what you buy and I cook"!

With Lera: "Have you eaten"? "No". "Why not? What have you been doing all day? We will go to a resteraunt".

With Larisa: "Have you eaten"? "No". "Oh my poor honey. I will make you something. What do you want honey"?

Spot the difference!!!

GOOD ADVICE!!! They know more about you than you know anyway! If I wanted to know anything, I would just ask. If there was an evasive answer, or no answer, I'd just drop it. Chances are that the following day you will have the answer to your question, or it will be clear that it was a stupid question anyway.

Lets see, I think I will take whats behind door number 3 also....LOL. Whats the status between you and Larisa? Is she coming to England to get married or are you going to her town?

Posted by: AkMike

Gee, I chose door #3 also.. I sure beat the heck out of the prior ex's. The differance in attitudes is flat out amazing.

Posted by: goforit

Yeah, pretty amazing. I get that from FSU women and I'm not even dating them.

Disclaimer: I KNOW all FSU women aren't this way, so don't feel as if you have to enlighten me as to my illusions about foreign women. Ha!

Hopefully (depending mostly on money ) I'm flying to Ukraine in August to get married there. After that, the plan is to go to Moscow and see her mother and sister via Kiev for her visa interview. After Moscow, we can come back via Kiev to collect her visa (I hope!), then it's back to Kerch to pack her stuff and come home with me.

What hotel did you stay at? Would you recommend it? What did you go see? What do you recommend seeing/avoiding? What is the most romantic place to take a lady?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Now, contrary to the thread title, I did not go to Cairo, I went to Hurghada, (this of course was at Jenya's suggestion because she could get a good deal, which she did) is about 200 miles south on the Red sea. We stayed in the hotel Ramoza, would not recomend it. It was listed as 3 stars, more like 1/2 star if that. There is a nicer area, newer, just south of the city, lots of new hotels and shops and the shop owners don't bug the crap out of you. I can't remember the name of it, its only like 10km south, its where the bowling ally and the water park is located. Pay the extra money for a 4-5 star hotel. Most romantic place? Your hotel room....LOL, serious, Im not joking. This city is dirty, hot, smelly, trash everywhere, why the Russian like it so much I don't have a clue. I was told by other people that Alexandria is nicer and geared more towards western/european standards, plus its only 100km north of Cairo. Don't get me wrong, I did have a great time, but it was only because of the company I was with, not the country.

I know from the Odessa women I saw a few months ago that you should bring your own toilet paper to Egypt. She said when she goes there she brings 15 rolls with her because none of the bathrooms she ever went in had any.

She said they use their hands to wipe themselves after a #2.

Is that the grossest thing you ever heard. I think I would throw up if I saw someone do that in front of me! Really!

In the hotels there is toilet paper all the time.... she is wrong..

Most other places you have to PAY to take a crap... or a piss... and to get toilet paper... in fact, expect to pay for everything you do.... and you do not know if you are paying the right person or not since NOBODY seems to wear a uniform (except at your hotel)..... so you think you are being ripped off all the time... which you probably are...

What about if you are out of the hotels? This is what she was really referring to.

When traveling in the middle east I would highly recommend bringing ones own toiletries since you it is a crap shot regarding the conditions of the restrooms.

Thats kinda funny, I never had a problem finding a bathroom that had toilet paper, all the ones I went into had it. The resturants, the discos, even on the boats, toilet paper. I will admit tho, they are rather small rolls. I found a whole package on the housekeeping cart at the hotel, so I stole it to be sure I never ran out. Can never have too much.....LOL

I was thinking of taking a trip to Egypt, I will have to read this thread. 434 posts! Wow.

Has anyone been to Cyprus or Malta? I heard it is easier for Russians to get a visa.

Posted by: blucatz

According to my Lady, you might want to consider Croatia. She was there last year and said its 100% nicer than Egypt. We both enjoyed ourselves in Egypt, but both agree we should have went somewhere else.

Posted by: blucatz

OK, time for the activities report of Hurghada Egypt.
First thing, you don't have to go anywhere to find an excursion to go on. Someone will eventually come to you at your hotel and tell you what they have available. If not, there are excursion companies all over the place. The most popular ones are trips to Cairo, either 1 day or 2 day trip that also goes to Alexandria. 1 day trips run about $100 each, but, you are looking at a total of 14 hours on a bus from Hurghada. The 2 day trip is around $150 including hotel for the night. You can fly to Cairo, but the cost jumps to about $225 each. Then you have the water parks, the Quad runner trips out into the desert, scuba trips, snorkling trips and just plain boat trips.

The first trip we took was a snorkling trip. The Red Sea off Hurghada has some of the best reefs in the world, 2nd only to the Great Barrier Reef. One peice of advice, don't take any coral, sea shells, or stand up on the reef, the locals will go totally nuts. I found this out the hard way....hehehe. I was taking a little break to adjust my mask, so I just stood up on the reef, and everyone was jumping up and down on the boat shouting something, had absolutely no clue what the excitement was. When I returned to the boat, Jenya explained what they were shouting at me....oh well, lesson learned. We did meet a really nice couple from St. Petersburg who we found out were staying 2 rooms away at our hotel. Of course, neither spoke english. We ended up spending a couple of other excursions with them, this was their 7 trip. I still didn't see the attraction here, but most of the Russians love it. I think they like all the attention the Egyptians give them. Jenya thought they were very annoying.

I took AKMike's advice and did the quad runner trip into the desert. That was really fun. We rode about 30km to this little village (I think it was staged, didn't look like people lived there full time) had a meal, rode the camels and watched the sunset. If you have never riden a camel before, imagine doing the splits on a concrete floor. I don't know what the saddle was made of, but it was hard as a rock. Every time it took a step, the handle behind you would jam into your back....OUCH! The actual quad ride was the fun part. They had Honda quads and they would go and put all of them into high gear and wouldn't let us shift them, even tho I told them I had one identical to theirs. But we were able to run them flat full out. On the way to the village, this guy was in front of me, about 4 people back from the leader, he kept lollygagging along, I kept running up to the back of him because he would slow down for no reason, finally one of the guides pulls up beside him, pulls him out of line and sends him to the back, now we can run and have some fun. You must wear long pants, at least a T shirt, and you get one of them goofy rags that they tie on your head and cover your face. You may think you look stupid, but it helps out allot. You will be very dirty by the end of the trip, so don't plan a nice dinner without cleaning up first.

We did relax a day in between excursions on the beach because we did have allot of time, so we didn't have to do everything like right now. We then decided to do the scuba trip, we went along with our St. Pete friends, they should really make a law against large people wearing string bikini's. Now, I was a diver in the navy, but, I haven't been down since 1985, Jenya has never done it before. I was a little bit uneasy for about the first 30 seconds, but then it all came back to me. You got this little 2 minute instruction on the equipment then you went down the first time with a guide. We were only in about 15 meters of water. I got about half way down and signaled my guide that he could go, I told him beforehand that I had done this before. So I swam, looked around, got back on the boat and the guide offered me a job teaching scuba, I told him "Uh, No, but spasibo". He took Jenya down for about 15 minutes, then her and I went down together by ourselves. I was dissapointed tho, they offered no photography services so we didn't get a picture underwater. There were a couple of really experienced divers that jumped in and were gone for about an hour and they had a Cam, but didn't ask them to take a pic. I told the guide they could make allot of extra money with an underwater digital camera.

Well, I think this is enuf for now, I will post more about the water park, night life in Hurghada, and our exciting exit from Egypt. So stay tuned.
