Rambler

I have been on this site for some while, learnt a lot and I have done a couple of trips to Russia and another to Ukraine to meet with women that I have corresponded with, but without success. I have had plenty of adventures and enjoyed every minute of it but being a quite private person I haven't done any trip reports, though I have enjoyed those I have read!
In the last year I have had a rethink and someone I met recommended Rambler as a place I might meet someone locally.
I have read various comments about people not wanting to meet Russians/Ukranians who are already in Europe or USA as they are different to women still in Russia but this didn't really make sense to me. If I was to bring someone to the UK wouldn't they change in the same ways?
So I joined love.rambler.ru it is a Russian language site but with an Internet translator it is not difficult to set up a profile. Also the site is free and you communicate directly with people, there is no agency and no fees. You could say it is like Match or Udate but in Russian. You do have to filter out some profiles as some are looking for business contacts and others are call girls.
I found I got several emails a day from women both in the UK and in Russia and met up with a few locally. All very nice and though we didn't click I made some good friends. Some women who contacted me from Russia wanted to learn English or just want a penpal and we enjoyed just a friendship as we exchanged ideas.

Now I have met someone special through this site who lives in England and I am thinking my time here is possibly coming to an end.

I suppose my point is don't ignore those women on your doorstep, the right person could be a lot closer than you think. The Rambler site is huge and worldwide and is used by people just to keep in contact when they are travelling or making friends in foreign countries, as well as looking for relationships.

Good luck to all on your travels and I will continue to check how everyone is doing for a while yet.

Great news John, I am glad things are working out for you, I remember you giving me help when I first joined this site and it was great advice too. Things didn't work out on that occasion but it was all part of the learning process, now I have found my lady and will be married next month, I hope things go as well form you as they are for me right now.

where do you find an "internet translator"?
living somewhat close to Chicago, I know there has to be a bunch of Russian/Ukrainians there, or if not use this love.rambler.ru to search for them overseas. Just need to know how to navigate and translate this site

translate.google.com will allow you to translate a whole webpage

Thanks BT will give this a try, do not know if I will join it yet, but until we have a wonderful FSU woman by our side, it is good to keep all options open I think

chilli, there are plenty of on-line translators, ImTranslator will integrate with IE or Firefox; although if you use Firefox it is better to install the FoxLingo add-on, this adds dozens of language translator pages to your browser.

There are three tricks to using them,
1/ use two different one to check the translation, you can get very different results from the same letter using different programs; this is useful if a word does not translate or does not make sense ie soul and shower are very similar in Russian and can get mixed up!!; Bread and Water translates as "Poor Food" in Russian !!

2/ If you are translating a letter to send, translate it BACK into English to see if it makes sense!! If not change the wording and try again; I find this gives a better chance of the other person understanding what you have written.

3/ Use simple words and avoid long, complicated sentence structures.

If you ever get the warning; send it in UTF8 format!!

Chilli

Along with the google translator I also use http://imtranslator.com/default.asp, between these two you can work out most of the questions on the site. I only filled in a few questions about myself and this worked OK, as I got loads of replies.
I agree with GG keep anything you write simple and his Point 2 is very important, otherwise you can write a load of c**p and never know!

I used to translate my wife's letters with Babelfish and they invariably started "By road Steve!"

I had the exact same translation phrase when using Prompt, and my friend who is Russian and fluent in English explained that the word for "road" and I think Dear or Love (can't remember now it was 2 years ago) are very similiar in Russian. So when I spoke to my the woman who I was corresponding with I told her of this and from then on it translated properly. Unfortunately I do not see or correspond with this woman any more

try an online translation through paralink.com to write letters in russian. it has a back translation feature that allows you to see if what you wrote makes sense. remember when using translation sites: KISS - keep it simple stupid

it would be very appreciated by your lady friend.
