Depending on who you talk to and which forum you read, there seems to be many different answers

The ONLY things that I am taling that are considered to be declared are $1500 cash, the two silver chains around my neck and my rings and watches

I wanted to take a TINY handmade ring for my lady that is silver and amethyst, valued at $100.00 and was told as long as I put it on the chain around my neck, they hardly EVER ask about body jewelry, ask to see it or are even concerned about it

What is the opinion on this board as the last person I talked to last week in Kiev says he went thru the Red Corridor, xrayed the baggage and him and never said a word, on the other hand, many of the boards say you have to declare even what you are wearing and that you have to have it when you come back out. of course, every customs site or explanation really doesn't break it down

Any opinions

J

The maximum amout of crisp clean unmarked cash you can bring in and still go thru the green line is $1000. IMO, do that and use your CC at a machine for extra cash.
Just don't take a few hyrivna at a time.. They charge per use.. Make it worth while.
I've never gone thru the red line. No need for it.
They did ask about some gifts.. But I said it was for my use, not gifts. I'venever been asked about jewelery.

I've NEVER declared anything, I have been asked what I had but nothing ever happened about it. Do as Mike says and yuo won;t go wrong, however, if you wear a lot of jewelry, chains etc and rings you will get stopped by the scanners, they will ring like you won't believe, so don't take it all, its not worth it, or put it into your carry on bag instead.

If you go through a scanner and the alarm goes off you will be asked to remove it anyway and go through again. What they will do with it and what questions they would ask I have no idea, but why stand out from the crowd, its best to just blend in. Do that and you won't have any worries.

Been through the customs at Kiev 3 times now, carrying video camera's, laptops, CD player (stack system type. Don't ask!) and all sorts of things. I have never declared anything and have never had a problem (apart from having to explain the stack CD player a few times). As far as I know, $1000 is the permitted amount of cash but who's counting? Never been searched and I found customs in Kiev to be no problem at all, apart from a funny incident on my first visit, but that was just some bored blokes having a laugh. For more on my first time at Kiev airport, have a look at this; http://russianmeetingplace.com/foru...75&postcount=11 ).

Don't worry! Everything will be great!
