Your School administrator is WRONG !!

I have personal experienced with people learn a foriegn language and still occasionally use the native tounge. It don't hurt.

What he should have said is:
use it only for relaxation, such as 3-4 hour TV a week, 1-2 hour reading magazines and 1-3 hour talking. Totally between 5-10 hour a week with Russian.

The reason to why this is not bad !! Because when you are relaxed / happy your leaning skills are increased.

His view is typical American etnocentric. Not good !!!

I am surprised. !!

As you can see I am not totally disagree with the adm. English most not be something she does, because she HAVE to. But disconnect your mother tongue completely is harsh.
I agree that your daily talk, news, shopping most be in english. As well attempts to undersrtand english music and movies. BUT .. a little relaxation can be benefial. Of course it depends on your ladies personality and how good she already is to english.

Anyway , best wishes for the future for both of you.
