Guys,
I thought that, I was computer literate. But I'm baffled by this one.

When my wife arrived, I set the display to both Russian and English, in the languages section of my computer's control panel. I also set her up with a Russian keyboard (in the same section).

All fine. Now we can type and store info in cyrillic. But......

Why is it that some Russian programs show up as a series of ????? in the page name of my explorer bar (the blue bar at the top of the page). And when you open them, the text is just a series of e's and o's with accents over them.

My missus says these programs work fine on her old computer back in Russia. And this problem is driving her mad!

Any ideas???

We get the same and my wife sends them back as gotten. They can send thru another program like word and they'll be OK. The sender oft times doesn't understand what it looks like when it arrives sor that they have to change programs.

You may need to go to the "Regional and Language Options" in the "control panel". Go to the "advanced" tab and change the language version of non-Unicode programs.

try changing the text display option to cyrillic, or unicode.

Just a thought, the display text you describe it also shown when trying to convert text that has already been transliterated.
