Exchanging Money

Helpful tip for exchanging money when in Russia.

I had several Euro notes of various denominations and several American bills of various denominations. Usually exchanging large notes -- $100 is easier then exchanging smaller notes. The notes I had with me where from several trips and were not in the best condition.

I tried several places but no luck.

I then took the notes home and ironed them. Yes, I used the iron on them to get out as many wrinkles as possible, and make them look as flat as possible. What most people don't know is that notes / bills are not made from paper, even though we call it paper money. Notes / bills are made from cotton. This is why you can leave a $20 in your pocket and it will survive the washing machine.

Anyways, I ironed the bills made them look as crisp as possible. -- Careful don't use too much steam or the bills will start to curl, and too much heat might damage the silver strip on Euro notes.

Took the wrinkle free bills / notes to the same bank that 2 hours earlier had refused them, and they took them with no questions asked. 3 minutes later I had my Rubles.
