Information about apartments and car rental in Ukraine

Hello everyone!!
I was away from this forum for some time. I have been communicating with a very lovely Ukrainian lady. We have so much in common and share the same values and goals for our lives. It is almost scary!!

Long story short, I am planning a trip to the Ukraine in a month or so.
I need some advice from the veterans here. Does anyone have information on where to find apartment rentals or suggest a place to stay in Kiev and Lviv for short term.

Also, I am seriously considering renting a car while there. It may seem excessive.....the previous trips I have traveled by bus, train, taxi and internal commuter flights. The travel is very slow and scheduling is a nightmare.
I want to spend more time with my lady seeing different cities and less time stressing over travel problems.
Pros and cons of car rental there? Can I drive the Ukrainian roads with an American license?

I don’t want to burden my lady with searching for this information, she is not well traveled in her own country and has little experience with the internet.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Holidays to all !!!!!

Hi 3 times, glad to have you back! It's good to hear you have found a great match.

As far as Kiev, I stayed at the Adria Hotel. The only complaint I have would be the bed. Very small, not too comfortable, and only big enough for 1 person ... but 2 could squeeze in if necessary!!! Maybe you can get a room with a better bed if you ask. There are many shops and restaurants near by and also a pharmacy that my girl just loved because prices were cheap. It isn't in the heart of Kiev which I'm glad it wasn't. The city is very noisy and the air made my eyes sting, a lot of pollution. Taxi rides are cheap if you want a tour. We drove around Kiev for 2.5 hours and it only cost $50.

You have to go to the Avalon restaurant and have dinner while you watch the "mermaid" swim. You need to make a resevation for these "swimming" rooms. Don't order a lobster dinner though. The menu says $25 but that is based on weight, dollars per X grams. The dinner will cost about $200!!!

I wouldn't drive in any foreign country. If you get in an accident, you will be most likely at fault because you can't plead your case to the officer or the officer will believe a citizen first. You could get sued BIG time or maybe worse. Plus you would have to pay to get the car fixed maybe. I'm not sure how renting cars work in the FSU. You might want to PM/e-mail AkMike, he has some in-laws that live in Kiev.

Take care and glad your back. Hope to her your story when you return.

Have a safe and happy holiday!!!
