Russian phone area code question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello,

I got a question about Russian telephone area codes.
I was contacted by a young, good looking woman (14 years younger than me) - the typical too-good-to-be-true situation.
As she tells me she has seen one of my letters I seem to have sent to one of her colleagues, a woman named Olga. I can remember writing to one Olga this summer, but I googeld her email address and found it together with her photos on an anti-scam site. So I stopped corresponding to 'Olga' immediately.
In her second letter my new contact gave me two telephone numbers: one is her company's cell phone number, the other one should be in Moscow where she lives.
Maybe I am a bit too suspicious (that possible?), but both her emails originate from an Estonian IP-Address range (90.190.14.122), but she told me she lives in Moscow. She uses a @bk.ru email address so a Russian IP-Address is in the email-header, too (194.67.57.114).
She told me she works for a Finnish log/wood company and travels to Scandinavian and eastern European countries often.
The "mysterious" thing - if it is a scam attempt - is that she writes in German! And it is not German written via an E-Translator, as there are misspellings which cannot be typos as they appear more than once ("schieken" instead of "schicken" (to send) or "funzionieren" instead of "funktionieren" (to function/ to work).
I googeled her email address: no hits.
Now about the phone numbers: the Estonian number starts with +372582... with 372 being the country code for Estonia. And +7926528... being the Russian number. I looked up Russian phone area codes and they all start with either 3, 4 or 8. Never with 9!
Does anybody recognise if there is a Russian phone area code starting with 926? Or is it a cell phone number?

BTW: am I too paranoic?

Many thanks in advance,

Arne

I wouldn't worry too much about the phone numbers. I know a woman living in Sochi Russia and her phone number has a St Petersburg prefix.

No you're not being paranoid, just cautious.

Giving you her numbers is a good sign. Most scammers don't give numbers .. unless they are good time girls (GTG) or Green Card Grabbers (GCG).

Usually if phone number stats with 9 it is a number of mobile phone.

thanx for your reply GoingToRussia,

I found this thread Surely Not A Scam? and Subtitle-D had the same question.
Seems Russian mobiel phone numbers start with '9'.
What still puzzles me are the Estonian IP and phone number... and that she is looking TOO beautiful...

When there are more women then there are "good men" in a country, many beautiful women can't get a date with a "good man". I've talked to many Russian women and their answers vary but it all comes down to "Russian men aren't serious about a relationship". This what I've been told anyway.

I can only say it is early in your reationship so keep ypur eyes and ears open. Don't be sucked in by her sweet talk and sexy accent! If you like her, go meet her, but go with the thought of a vaation ... not to meet your future wife. People "fall in love" over the Internet but you really don't know until you meet and talk for 2-3 days and sometimes not then either. Follow your head not your heart. Base your decision on what she does ... not what she says.

I wish you good luck and I hope you enjoy your time in the Former Soviet Union (FSU)!

If she works in a Moscow office of an Estonian branch of Finnish company she might have the Estonian IP (corporate server) and corporate mobile phone number with Estonian code.

It's too complicated, but theoretically possible.

Just ask her If the girl is real, she will give you a reasonable explanation. May be she is on contract in Estonia at the moment. May be she has other reasons not to give you her Moscow land line number after a couple of emails.

My girls mobile number starts with a 913 and she is in Omsk, so she probably gave you her cell number.

Possible indeed. The IP address belongs to an Estonian DSL user, could be the Finnish company's FSU HQ.
