On Wednesday at Davies Hall, 27-year-old San Francisco Symphony associate conductor James Gaffigan led works by Russian icons Modest Mussorgsky, Sergey Rachmaninoff and Peter Tchaikovsky, as well as contemporary Chinese-American composer Chen Yi.
