I am heading off to Tashkent in about two weeks. I visited last april and filed for fiance visa in July to give you an idea of where I am right now.
On my first visit I used a travel agency for my Letter of Invitation. It was about 25 dollars and took about 5 days. Lola had offered to get me my LOI but..I didn't know her well enough to know if she was capable of doing it. Having met her and through continued letters and emails, when she offered to get my LOI for this trip I knew she could and would do it. Luckily, she started about two months ago. Beauracracy reigns supreme!! Last thursday, she completed running all over Tashkent several times and announced that it was done and gave me the telex number to reference for my visa application. It is kind of funny because she has to register my visa when I get there. I guess I am her captive for the duration!
I don't think it was worth $25 dollars for all her time to do this...my suggestion is just go with an agency--much faster and less aggravation. Something else funny is that because it took so much time--I spent most of the difference on postage to make sure the visa gets here in time!
I would like to hear from anyone who has suggestions on what to see, do and where to eat in Tashkent. We didn't really have any plans on the first trip and it turned out very nicely. Saw the ballet, went to the bazaar, normal things. this time I want to eat in the "TV tower"--anyone eaten there? Is it good? Is it expensive?
Oh, plane tickets wound up being $1465. OUCH I hope Uzbek air partners up with someone soon!!

It seems like you've found a special lady. If she's spent so much time and effort to save you a few bucks she must like you alot! Good Luck!

I sent off for my visa last friday (26 Oct) and received it back thursday (1 november). I was pretty impressed. I was a little worried so I sent it over priority and returned it express. I guess I could have saved some money.

FWIW, you're the only one that I recall that ever ventured there. Make sure you take pics and give us a travel report. I'd be interested is seeing some of that part of the world. It already seems that at least one of the women there is something else!

HeyJoe,

Dagpop's wife is from Tashkent. PM him. He was only there once about 1.5 years ago so I don't know if he will remember much ... like names of places they went.

It takes at least 7 months now for the entire visa process, that's minimum. It use to take about 5 or 6 months.

Good Luck Joe!

Hey JoeLunchBox, how's it going? Any news on her arrival yet? Any plans to go to Tashkent again? Maybe you can give us an update?

Best of luck to you and I hope things are going well.
