SLOW Package From Ukraine

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This has got to be a new record for slow delivery! On August 7th Tanya mailed a package of cd's and books from Cherkassy Ukraine to me. After a couple of months we called the USPS to start a trace to try to get it. Of course they can't do a trace from the US since it was mailed in Ukraine BUT she did say the box did leave Ukraine on the 12th.
So we got a friend to go thru the paperwork and the multiple stampings of each form for us. No luck.. The Ukraine PO said they needed a letter of authorization from the sender.. stamped of course Arrrgggghhhhh
Some how ,some way there was a fluke and some one screwed up and finally delivered it yesterday! Over 2 and one half months later!
This is the first time that there has been any trouble like this for us so hopefully it's a rare thing!

Nice story,

I think there is something going on with the UPS and Meest mail in the Ukraine. I ship packages every month few months to orphanages in Zaporozhye and the 17 boxes I shipped on August 11th are yet to be delivered……I have been told they have been found and will be delivered in a few weeks…..But now I wonder if I need to ship my Christmas stuff soon .

Some of the stuff I sent to Tanya in Mariupol, took almost three months!!
So no surprise, here...

A small package I sent to Irkutsk last year took 5 days to get from Malvern to Irkutsk airport, then 6 weeks to travel through the postal system and out to the recipient on the outskirts of the city.

I have had relatively good luck with Russian postal service both sending and receiving small parcels from Moscow and St. Petersburg (knock on wood).
I do find getting parcels from Moscow and St. Petersburg is shorter than sending them to Moscow.

I have sent many parcels to Ukraine and a few to Russia, to Ukraine they have all taken 7 - 8 days from the UK, in fact I sent one a few weeks ago and it took exactly that long, I always put two addresses on them, one in English and one in Cyrillic. I also sent a card last Tuesday, I expect that to be delivered tomorrow or Tuesday latest based on previous experiences.

To Russia my experiences have been a little different, the last one took nearly 3 weeks, but I guess it depends on what city you are sending it to over there.

The thing that bugs me is that it took 5 days to get out of Ukraine and afterwards it went MIA. I know the FSU postal depts. are supposed to be slow and things disappear but this was after it left Ukraine.
All the other letters and packages have taken a couple of weeks. Maybe we've been lucky til now?

Maybe your luck has changed Mike not long ago I sent a package to Italy fromt he UK, it left the UK the next day all tracked, then for some reason it decided to have a trip around Europe and went via Germany and a few other countries, it landed in Italy at the postal depot about two weeks later and then took 3-4 weeks to move the final few miles to the customer. So even into normnal Continental Europe you cannot guarantee speedy deliveries, I suppose we should be thankful the parcels get there at all

I guess despite it's problems the USPS isn't all that bad then..
I mailed an expensive camera lens to my step son for his birthday and I was worried about it becoming lost in transit or customs. But luckily no problems. It took 10 days IIRC.

Hey Cedar, long time - no see... I hope things are going well. I wonder if you (or AKMike & Raspberry) can tell me how much is it to ship to Ukraine from US? Say for a 5 or 10 pound pkg? It might be much better to send my stuff USPS instead of CanadaPost.

USPS website will let you know.
